Insuring a car with a bodykit

Hi everyone. First time driver looking at cars, getting fleeced for insurance, the usual.

Far from the racer type, but I'm considering getting a car and adding a good body kit as I like cars with good design.

Looking at an online insurance quote and they have a checkbox for 'Car has been modified', and you can select all the mods you have, but there's nothing about a body kit (front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts). Most of them seem to be performance mods like engine, suspension, etc. but there are a couple like tinted windows and a full paint job.

The thing is, they seem to be adding a flat rate of about €350 per mod to my premium, no matter what it is.

I'm guessing when I call them they'll consider the body kit a mod (even though it's not listed on the site?), but I'm just wondering: do they usually consider the whole body kit as one mod itself, or do they think of it as like 3 or 4 different mods? (Front bumper, rear bumper, right side skirt, left side skirt, etc.) Because if they add €350 for each, I'll be reconsidering :pac:

    Cheers!

i dont think the bodykit should affect your premium as technically its not enhancing the standard performance of the car..

if you buy the car standard and put the kit on at a later date i wouldnt bother telling them about it.. you could just say it was on the car when you bought it. I seriously doubt it will increase premium tho :)

That's what I thought as well. But it looks like even if you even have 'tinted windows' it adds the €350! I think they're claiming it makes it more 'appealing to thieves' but it seems a bit much.

Yeah that's just it. Just hoping they don't count it as more than one mod, if at all.
