    Hi,
My driving test is at the end of august, i should say my 4th test ! :o ,i have previously used the instructors cars, but, due to lack of funds im using my car this time.
I have come across a major problem, ,my car is a mercedes (old ha), and the hand brake is applied by foot and released by hand, to be honest i only use it for parking, ,ive never used it for driving i normaly stop and keep my foot on the brake and clutch and move off as normal, does any one know how to and when to use it during a test and will it be harder for the tester to judge my driving because of it, im so nervous about this test :o : , thanx very much.:) ,

They will have tested many people with this setup before. Guidelines for the 'handbreak' would include: Apply the handbreak if you are stopping for three or more second, also if you are stopping on a hill. Do not let the car roll back at all when moving off. Do not sit with your foot on the foot break too long.

I had the same setup for my test (mid 90's) and drew the testers attention to it. He just said ok and proceeded witht he test.

you can't slowly take the handbrake off and get the car to be straining forward as in a normal car so you'll need to have the engine revved slightly more than normal so when all the handbraking force suddenly disappears the car has enough inertia built up in the forward direction to get it moving and not stall or roll back.

Is there a steep hill around your house you can practice on, there is a knack in getting it right.
