I need to lose some weight and become all round healthier, but cant afford to join a gym at the mo, but i do have a weights bench and weights at home and was wondering if doing some exercises with these a few evenings per week will help me lose some weight, or should i really be looking at doing cardio only.

You should really look at changing your diet.

    Calorie deficit = Weight loss.

If your diet is ok and your doing weights, this of course uses energy. If your using more calories than your taking in, then you will loose weight.

I found weights great for losing fat, but not necessarily "weight", I was the same weight for about a year but lost a fair bit of fat at the same time -i.e. was putting on weight in the form of muscle.

So do not just track your weight.
