on 1 of upc twitter accounts its says there doubling the allowance from 250 gb to 500 gb happy days guys dont know about the 100 meg

They're increasing the cap on all packages to 500GB and upgrading "99%" of their customers to at least 20Meg speeds.

Interesting I wonder how this will affect there triple play packages? And all the download limits are going up to 500GB which is mad!

If the 12mb is going up to 20 instead of getting the triple play pack might get the 20mb BB plus the Digital Max tv for less...

It all looks very tempting, if only UPC was available in my area. I personally think they should focus on rolling out to more areas than upping speeds but I'm biased

For customers who signed up to UPC Broadband service from July 2011, the data transfer allowance is:
500GB for Fibre Power Broadband 12Mb, 25Mb, 50Mb and 100Mb users

For all other customers who have signed up to UPC Broadband service prior to July 2011, the data transfer allowances for the various packages are:
15GB for Fibre Power Broadband 12Mb users (Formerly Fibre Power Broadband 1Mb),
120GB for Fibre Power Broadband 12Mb, 20Mb, (Formerly Fibre Power Broadband 10Mb) and 25Mb (Formerly Fibre Power Broadband 15Mb) users,
250GB for Fibre Power Broadband 20Mb, 25Mb, 30Mb and 50Mb users and
500GB for Fibre Power Broadband 100Mb users.

I started out on 5Mbp little more than a year ago and since then have been bumped up to 8, then 10, and now 20.


I think that puts me on the 120gb cap?

Or at least I hope....

Was 30 or 40 gigabytes when I first joined.

i'd say that if you signed up for an upgrade they're including anyone who rang in too maybe?

it doesn't actually say new customer, just customers who signed up.

anyone who got the 50mb or 100mb when the new upgrades arrived technically 'signed up' all over again, so maybe that's it.

oh UPC, i do wish you'd sort your billing out, it's a complete mess.

I would assume that this is the current caps so that they can make new customers happy but it will change in September for all previous customers.

At least that's what I hope

As the title states from the 5th September they will be increasing the usage (download / upload ) to 500gb which was a nice surprise this morning.

Although they do point out at the end of the letter that due to change folks do have the opportunity to withdraw from the contract without penalty. (Note if you have not informed UPC within 30 days then you are deemed to have accepted the new terms. Just if anyone has been looking for a way out then this is it, so long as the change applies to your particular product.

I have no reason bring this to anyone's attention, it is merely something UPC declare at the end of the letter anyway so it is just FYI really.

I am happy customer of UPC's Broadband standalone package for over 2 years now. I was on 30mb, now on 50 and both are 100%

Actually your right, when I originally signed up it was for 15meg, then upgraded to 30 meg later on, hence the letter

I think those terms apply to the current situation. The letter that I recieved today clearly states that from September my download allowance will be 500gb. I have had the 30mb service for a number of years. Fair play to UPC, at last a decent cap.

Ha and that means they dont have to tell us it unlimited any more now the truth comes out at last. it was false advertising before and now they have grounds to get you in court should you exceed 500GBs cleaver

they put up to the maximum payment when i have gone over my limit once before and i argued that their terms states "unlimited" so i sent them a letter treating to sue them for false advertisement and the reimberesed me the money they took and also sent an apology letter seems im not the only one to give out to them

i guess its about time we knew where we stood with them

Monthly Rate Decrease: as of 5 September the 100 MB Broadband is only €55

However if you have phone service be carefull as there is now a charge of €3.30 for call barring which comes automaticly with UPC phone service, so make sure you cancel it if you don't need it.

Also the stand alone charge of €7.75 continues for old customers which have broadband/phone only.

unless you ask to speak to the customer loyalty team to complain about the double standards and them penalising faithful long term customers in which case they will waive the extra fees.

also, I just got my first bill since i managed to get them to sort out my billing problems after upgrading to the 100mbps & phone deal.



the previous bill included a credit for the amount i was overcharged on the 1st one after the upgrade.

Its about time that they did away with the "unlimited" charade and it would be nice to think that our campaign on boards.ie contributed to it.

It would be nice to see the other companies who continue to perpetrate this unlimited myth following suit.

The ASA should hang their heads in shame over this ongoing fiasco.

Note there is a €7.75 charge if you don't get either TV OR phone. BUT if you get phone, then this charge no longer applies

Let me restate that, if you take their phone service you do NOT pay the standalone charge. So really there is no reason not to take their phone service, even if you never use it, as it is 75 cent cheaper. And you actually save €8 on the 100mb BB!!

Im paying for internet from them for over 3 years now.

Ive always had UNLIMITED download.

In post today i get a leaflet telling me my CAP??? has increasesd??..my unlimited has increased??

my bill has incresed because i got the FOOD CHANNEL & TRUE MOVIES added but i nevr asked for them???

both channels are complete garbage & my dog would not watch them.

you've never had an unlimited product, despite what was advertised.

UPC have enforced a 250gb limit per month on the top (unlimited, with a Fair Usage Policy) packages since January 2009.

if you go over that limit you get a letter telling you and a warning that if you keep going over they'll bump you up to the next highest package, then if you do, they upgrade you.

there has been a lot of noise made both on here & to UPC directly (and to comreg) by a lot of members because of the incorrect use of the word unlimited and it seems that after 2 odd years, they have finally heard us and changed their tune.

you never had unlimited, just the illusion of it. if someone says something is unlimited when it's not, if you never actually hit that limit then you don't know any different.

What about increasing me to 25meg from 20 without asking me and increasing price?

I originally had 10 mb which i was very happy with but since 2 years now ive had an increase to 25mg and a price increase in my bill without me asking for it.

Ive a recored of all my speed test done and my internet speed is only a little bit higher than it was two years ago & ive had engineers out telling me its fine...

What Im saying is that they have taken €6 extra a month from customers all over ireland with no visable difference in my internet. I could stream movies, play xbox live just the same 2 years ago than I do today.

you'll find it buried in their T&C's somewhere that they reserve the right to upgrade your packages periodically to keep up with what is currently available.

things change over time and every services based company does it, sky, o2, vodafone eircom etc.

if they didn't do it, they'd still have people paying 50 quid a month for a 1mbps service who'd then suddenly (eventually) realise that other people are getting 100mbps for a couple of quid more and i'm sure you'd complain a lot more about that.

Just did a calculation, 31.1 TB of data downloaded. (Assuming you had a couple of cousins who had had some big hard drives each)

you may want to look at your letter again mate as the letters are practically photo copied and posted out to all homes. I.e "as of September 5th your broadband usage will increase to 500GB" if you look at the terms of agreement i.e small print you will see the part that says fair usage policy of 250GB now for any normal Jo a few years that might as well have been unlimited as many Wouldn't have exceeded 100Gbs any way. the Unlimited was just there way of saying that. I know I know false advertising but then you look at HDDs that say hey buy 500Gbs and you really get 465gbs

as for your TV channels as **** as they are i mean i can get any movie i want (with in reason on the internet, now even more with the 500GBs TYVM) It clearly states "there is no charge top your monthly price as a result of these changes"

Im not employed by UPC so im not defending them and god knows i have had 27 DVRs all failed on me in 2 different houses so i know how they suck but with all the companys out there Id say UPC are the best of a bad bunch and its about time they decided to cut the wool away from ours eyes and actullty admitted that Unlimited BB does not exist.

I seen an ad for sky broadband and they said their broadband is truely unlimited. I'd love to have it for a few months just to test out how unlimited it really is.

i haven't actually checked, but you can almost guarantee it's only 1mbps or something like that. i don't see them doing a 24mbps unlimited product somehow, although of course i could be wrong.
