surprised he didnt get rid of him earlier after all the affairs came to light.

The big question now is who will take over his bag? Billy Foster would hardly leave Westwood who normally stands in when Williams couldnt caddy.

Steve's not too happy about it.
    STATEMENT:
Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80's I am excited about the future working for another Australian.

Yep have heard that too., and i'd believe it. He's also big into motor racing - he drives professionally. He's also a rather big philanthropist in New Zealand.

Scott's surely got one major in him, prospects look better with a caddy of Steve's calibre.
Woods really hasn't a hope of emulating Jack's record now.

I think the writing was on the wall a while back when he made a derogatory comment about Mickelson and said Tiger didnt like him.

Think you're hugely over-estimating the role of a caddy there to be honest. They can't take the shots for em.

Colin Byrne is free :D:D:D:D:D:D . It will be interesting to see if Billy Foster does indeed get the gig. Westwood pouted after the Open & may be open to a change. I think Billy looped before for Eldrick when Stevie was getting married. What odds Billy F for Tiger & Colin Byrne for Westwood?

Harrington could have 5 caddies, Luke donald driving for him and he still won't win sh1t. I loved the guy but his day has gone.....and thinking his caddy has anything to do with is balls.

You serious Johnny ... Shur you could have said that about Darren Clarke (and some people did) not too long ago and now he is Major Winner. Foolish to write someone of his caliber off like that. Maybe for the season or whatever but he is going to be playing golf for a good few years more. Could easily get his game together and bag another few big ones.

Woods is mentally unstable IMO, not in a crazy type of way but he is obviously not well rounded personally. I think its becoming extreemly obvious. I think his dad and all the other stuff that comes with becoming one of the most famous guys on earth has left him at a loss personality wise. I imagine he will find it hard to find a caddie as good but he is becoming increasingly random in what he dose. Will be an interesting watch the next few seasons to see how he gets on.

I doubt it. That was years ago.

It might be the fact that he intends on playing a reduced schedule in years to come. Maybe 6-8 tournaments including the majors because of his crocked left knee. Maybe he doesn't want to keep Williams in the lurch and as they're good friends would want to see him get out on a more regular bag. It's not like Williams would be begging for a bag anyway.

seriously, is there ANYTHING we can do to facilitate this? somebody around here must know someone who can get close to the target and just float the idea out there. we need to go all Inception its ass.

    does anyone have k.mcginty's email?

we could tell the slobbering sycophant that PH is interested in a new looper and that KMcG could use the experience as the basis for a new book. bestseller for xmas 2014 and he'd get to see PH in his smalls.

whats amazing is that SW is coming out of this looking sympathetic. that quite an achievement!... and ranks right up there with eldricks best.

If Martin Kaymer purportedly got 100 applications to loop for him, Woods will have plenty of interest.

WHEN tiger comes back, its gonna be the best job on the tour.....simple as.

due to laughing so hard he didnt notice the toast sliding off the plate. they should make one side of the bread more tactile to try avoid tragedies such as this.

Okay spose he didnt spill the beans as such... but was the first twitterer to twitt about it i believe...

Hank Haney Wow, Tiger let Steve Williams go, I am shocked, Stevie is the best caddy I have ever seen and been a big part of a lot of his success.

Is that it? It's all over the web the fact that they are no longer an item. I presumed Haney had added something to that which is in the public domain. Twitter is such a load of nonsense, I suppose I should not be surprised that there was nothing in it. Sorry to hear about the beans.

    nasty white trash skank.

    Or possibly michael jordan

WHEN tiger comes back, its gonna be the best job on the tour.....simple as.

    Why?

Tiger will be 36 in a few months and he will be a very old 36 as he was at the very top of the game at 21. Lots of true greats of the game like Seve, Tom Watson & Arnold Palmer won their last Major when they were younger than Tiger is now.

Tiger has a knee injury which is never going to completely go away. He has also had some big issues with his swing and a lot of serious personal problems which have destroyed his aura of invincibility. There are also a bunch of very talented players 10 or more years younger than Tiger who have started to challenge for and win Majors.

At the very least, there would have to be a significant doubt as to whether Tiger will ever win another Major. It wouldn't surprise me if he does win at least one more but it also wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't.

For the past 15 years, Tiger could have had any caddie he wanted. I could imagine someone like Billy Foster having to think very carefully if he was offered the job now. He could well decide to stay where he is if he thinks he would have a better chance of success with Lee Westwood in the next 2/3 years.

Another thing to consider is that Tiger may only play 10/12 times a year in future to protect his knee. I can't see him ever challenging for No 1 in the world again as he simply won't play enough. I'm sure Tiger won't have a problem finding a new caddie but he won't neccessarily get his first choice which is a big change. Best job on Tour - definitely not.

It's a question of Money, Moolah, Wonga etc

The PGA tour norm is for caddies to receive a base salary of $1,000 per tournament. With a 10% cut of prize money for a win, 7% for a Top-10 and 5% for making the cut.

Now you'd think that Steve was rolling in it during the past decade due to Wood's win/top10 ratio, however they struck a deal that he'd be paid just  a salary between $1.5 to $2 million per year.

Woods has a reputation for being careful with money or as the americans would say 'Cheap'. Woods figures out that he won't be playing much anymore probably say under 10 events a year and won't justify paying Williams that much anymore.

If that's accurate then I wouldn't call it cheap, I'd say it's just good sense. All things come to an end, these things have a natural evolution. Tiger has every right to employ whomever he wants.

Williams obviously feels he's as much repsonsible for the 13 Majors as Tiger is so this healthy dose of reality will do him no harm. I've never liked the chap and I like him even less seeing how big a knob he's been throughout this latest story.

I love the way us punters have infinite knowledge when it comes to injuries sportspeople get. Let's face it, only time will tell. You dont know how it will recover, Tiger doesn't know, his surgeon doesn't know.

this is hilarious: tiger dicked steve because he looped for adams and Eldrick was cheesed off at the lack of loyalty.

    loyalty!

    this from the serial adulterer!

this is better than fair city

    http://www.geoffshackelford.com/homepage/2011/7/21/woods-fires-stevie-for-disloyalty.html

"With Woods sidelined, and seeing that he was already in the US, it seemed innocuous enough to Williams to answer an SOS from his old friend, Scott, who’d just parted ways with longtime caddie Tony Navarro and needed someone to step in while he looked for a permanent replacement.

But it wasn’t innocuous to Woods, who wasn’t happy to be sharing his caddie with another player.

Neither did he want to deal with the inevitable media speculation the news would invite.

But Williams had already promised Scott he’d work for him at Congressional and told Woods he wasn’t going to go back on his word.

The straw that broke this camel’s back came when Williams showed up at Woods’ own tournament, the AT&T National in Philadelphia, with Scott, who finished third.

Williams hadn’t thought it necessary to get Woods’ permission a second time but at a closed-door meeting after the trophy presentation, Woods told Williams he‘d been disloyal and fired him."
