Gaps after orthodontic treatment

I had braces upper and lower for 2 years, got them off recently (orthodontist said i was done) and while my upper teeth are perfect now, i have some considerable gaps between teeth on the lower jaw. I had braces on the front 8 of my lower teeth, one side is perfect but the other my ortho has left gaps of about .05 - 1mm between 3 teeth. Is there any reason he would have done this on purpose? He did not even mention the gaps, but stated the teeth were fine and i would not need a retainer

EDIT: for clarity my regular dentist has said the gaps are almost too big to fix cosmetically and was himself somewhat confused

    Many thanks

A 1 mm gap is easy to fix cosmetically but they question is why would you have to? Best to ask the orthodontist that did the treatment, maybe there are technical reasons. There are a few orthodontists on here that may know some reasons?

I of course plan to ask him, but i would like to know beforehand if there is any medical etc reason why he would have left these gaps. They look so bad on that side my dentist seemed amazed when i told him i had lower braces. I'm also afraid the ortho will kind of fob me off , as he did not even acknowledge it when taking them off. I somewhat assumed they would close naturally but dentist said that would never happen given the size of the gaps

If there are any orthodontists please chime in :)

    Hi

I would discuss with the orthodontist as it is impossible to give a proper answer without seeing you. However, with deep bites it can be very difficult to close spaces and there are sometimes good reasons to leave spaces. However the spaces are usually small and acceptable.

    some reasons would be :
Replace missing teeth but I am guessing that this is not the issue with you
closing the spaces would disturb the occlusion or bite
compliance or other issues making it impossible to continue

I really dont know why the spaces are there but talk with the orthodontist involved

    -All bottom teeth are present
-I did exactly what was asked of me; wore elastics 24/7, never had breakage of wires or brackets etc
The only thing i can GUESS right now is the bite? But really, the spaces are considerable and VERY noticeable. When i smile, the gaps in the bottom are very visible and of course, this is not what i was hoping for.

I am away for a couple of weeks so wont get to him until then

Go as soon as you can, sometimes leaving it for months muddies the waters regarding whether the space were there when the braces were removed.
