    Hi,
I need to build up muscle in my left leg .

Mainly above the knee / knee area .

Does anyone know of a small machine / gadget I could buy to help .

Doctor mentioned some elastic strings , but really suggested putting a bag of sugar on my foot and lifting leg etc .

Vatus Medialis (AKA the "Tear Drop")

    Single-leg leg-extension, toes pointed outward.
That should do the trick :)

I presume this is rehab for an injury?

Front squats would be the No.1 choice.

I was wondering how long before someone would recommend squats.

THe fact the OPs doctor has said something like a bag of sugar on the end of their leg would be sufficient to start building muscle should give some idea as to the state they're in.

Front squats would be a terrible idea.

OP you've probably come to the wrong place for advice since you're either old, injured or in a seriously bad way. No one can give proper advice without assessing you.

Thanks Lads - Am late 40's

Will go with the bag of sugar anyway , and try squats too later .

Its not an injury , probably just general wear and tear .

Sounds like its the ' tear-drop ' area all right .

you could buy some ankle weights that strap around your ankle. One would weigh the same as a bag of sugar. I used to use them years ago while running. Most sports shops would stock them.

    Damn right.

I started off using little to no weight at all.

Now I can squat a 200kg bag of sugar.....
