Due to most Bizarro World turn of events the UK version will be missing most scene....

'Torchwood' sex scene cut from UK broadcast

The BBC has confirmed that it has cut a sex scene from an upcoming episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day.

The moment featured Captain Jack (John Barrowman) sleeping with a barman and is expected to be shown in the US on cable network Starz, The Sun reports.

However, the scene will be cut from the UK broadcast as it was allegedly deemed inappropriate for a primetime slot on BBC One.

"It wasn't that it was a gay scene that worried people, but just the fact that it was such an explicit sex scene full stop," a source said. "You can get away with scenes like that on American cable channels, but you can't on primetime BBC One.

"Even though the show airs after the watershed, it has a lot of young fans who would have been shocked at the graphic nature of the sex."

A BBC spokesperson confirmed that the scene will not be shown in the UK, adding that a violent moment will also be cut later in the series.

"The UK and US versions of Torchwood are slightly different," the spokesperson said. "However, these differences do not change the story in any way and the strong storylines are first and foremost to the series."

Barrowman, who has previously said that Jack has "full-on boy sex" in the show, recently admitted that he would like to make a Torchwood movie.

Lets just hope they replace it with a sex scene between Gwen & Alexa :pac:

if they showed it the sun or the mail would be first to protest, BBC cant win in these situations.

Ok now that news does leave me surprised - I had always presumed that the UK version would just filter for violence & the US version censor sexual content.

After-all, traditionally American TV (and America as a whole) would be more puritanical when it comes to the beast with the two backs, whereas Brit TV tends to shy away from violence and gore. Suppose that theory was kicked to touch with the autopsy scene in ep1.

But yes, let's be blunt - the Beeb are terrified of the right-wing tabloids & that's the probable reason it's being pulled.

Some US channels might be a bit gun shy when it comes to sex scenes, but Torchwood airs on Starz. Starz isn'g gun shy when it comes to... uhm... ANYTHING! They pull absolutely no punches in their programming, especially when it comes to language, sex, and nudity. 'Spartacus' was their original series, and it was practically pornography sometimes. For a show about gladiators, it was more sex than violence sometimes. I think "c*ck" was their favorite word in that series! It could have made for a very successful (and expensive) drinking game! They're quick to show explicit sex scenes (both gay and straight) and full frontal nudity (both men and women). You might not catch much sex on ABC prime time... But you'll find all your heart desires on our premium cable channels (not only is Starz cable, but you have to pay extra for it)!

It has aired now, and the scenes were definitely left in! :D

Despite not wanting to watch 2girls1cup again (morbid curiosity and all), I certainly didn't avert my eyes... not the first time I watched it, not any of the next 10 times I watched it! :P To each his own though! :)

The sex scene wasnt that bad at all. It wasnt any worse than the sex scene between the doctor and the annoying agent.

Is there any plans to release an uncut version of this series of Torchwood which hasn't been butchered for either set of censors?

Haven't started Torchwood in earnest yet but tend to absorb full series of anything I watch pretty quickly so wondering if it's best to leave it until the current series has seen it's (un-cut) DVD release?

    Bigger on the inside.

    Lol.

Don't know what people are complaining about, tbh. It's an adult series, it got adulty for a few minutes, so what.

Historically they have cut bits from the US airing on Doctor Who and Torchwood but that was to fit in more ad breaks.

And the US had to either acquirer a copy of the UK stream or wait for the BBC World DVD that that had the full episodes. So I'd say it will be included in the DVD version.

I'm sure I've seen worse on BBC before and most deferentially on Channel 4 at the same time slot.

I can't believe they cut that, esp as it had a moralistic message.

Dillon Casey on getting the Torchwood part:

Warning: contains male flesh strutting around in underwear from 3:00 onwards.

That was really bad, boring with terrible dialogue throughout. I expected so, so much better from a Jane Espenson penned episode. :(

it was a bit ham-fisted at times - the medical conference and the "i used to be catholic but I got better" line was straight from when I was in students union politics back in the 80's. it totally overshadowed some areas i was expecting to be covered in more detail, as you expect in proper science fiction, like abortions, babies born with terrible illnessess who cannot die, the effects on not dying on those who want to kill themselves, for example. I mean, forget phycorps stocking up on pain killers, they should also be stocking up an anti-depressents as well.

One line on "they are introducing birth controll measures into the water in india" isnt going to cut mustard, as it was said so fast and in the general noise of the scene that it made no impact. Also, it wasnt clear just who these people thought they were, in relation to the general crises. Are they a US government advisory board, meeting the president, or are they the equivilant of a coffee shop debating society? Wasn't clear to me.

The other ham-fisted moment was, yes, you've guessed it, the
    gay
sex scene. My whelm has rarely been as under as it was here. Gay has a bang because suddenly he is mortal, fair enough. (but out of character, he was banging when immortal too) no need for the lousey dialogue about living forever with HIV, though. It was intercut with Rex's straight sex scene to, you know, ram the point home. And if it wasnt rammed home, Jack's joke did. Inyourendo indeed.

Apart from that, there were some great moments. Someone should tell Gwen about Red Lemonade and see how smart she thinks she is ;) and the Oswald character is very interesting, although you can almost see the flow chart in the script outline in getting Jack to see him. Why? I mean, why was Jack interested in him in the first place?? Jacks little speech to him makes no sence unless you are RTD and you know what is going to happen a few weeks down the line. Think about it.

    Speculation:
phycorps want oswald as a spokesman advocate becuase he wants to die, and they will oblige in having him die first when they switch off the miracle in full view of the world, using their "death pills" the only medication you can get to die from, thus their motive behind miracle day is to get a market for this product

Jack, oddly enough, seems superfluous in this story, Gwen and Rex are doing all the work and Rex is turning out to be a better leader than him. Is this why he has a drunken call to Gwen? It was well done, and Gwens turning the chat to Ianto and away the hell from her was very nicely done and the letting the conversation drop altogether when she got the laptop even better. yOU cant help but feel a bit sorry for jack, even if you think that, deep down, he is a galatic jerk and about a deep as dew on the lawn.

Apart from those small things I liked it, a lot, I think its proabaly the best thing that RTD has done since Who (yes I know he didnt write this one, but I wonder how much of it he re-wrote). I still hope no aliens, just humans using alien tech. Lets make us the bad guys for once.

All of the Gwen uses British colloquialisms and is corrected in annoying detail by Esther made me want to smack them. Especially the lemonade bit, lemonade of the flat variety is very popular in Britain, all the supermarkets carry several versions of it. Maybe if she hadn't known what Hard Lemonade was and gotten tipsy it might have been funny, but not knowing what a popular British product was, was stupid.
