Sweet! Wonder can I ring up and weasel it out of them?

Only signed up to Sky about 2 or 3 months ago based on the last combination of deals (100 + 150 from fatcheese).

The only one thing I preferred on the NTL subscription was having ESPN for free. This would be great if I got it on Sky too as I have all the Sports channels! Couldn't stomach the subscription fee for 1 channel like that even though there's all the pre-season friendlies at the moment and quite a few decent games on during the season.

If you are an exisitng Sky Sports subscriber you will still get it for free.

You didn't read the op did you? It's free if you have all Sky Sports channels plus you get ESPN America.

The ESPN channels will be available to Sports subscribers from Friday 22nd July.

    No need to get snippy..
The OP was 2 lines... 1 of which was a link to the website. So of course I read it.
I have all the Sports channels already and ESPN was still locked out for me so I assumed I needed to do something.

I didn't see the 'from 22nd of July' part.... but now I see it - thanks for informing me anyways.

I consider the sports package to be overpriced.

€200 quid a year is a bit much for me, but I would love ESPN just for the UFC.

    Ya time!

In fairness this should have been free all along.

Can't wait to catchup on the UFC now!

Have a look at the faq's on that link.

    From the Sky website
If I'm already an ESPN customer and I have the Sports Pack will I still have to pay?

No, from 22 July, if you have the Sports Pack (Sports 1 and Sports 2) you'll no longer be charged for your ESPN subscription and any amount you may have paid after that date will be refunded in your next bill.

Do I have to do anything to get ESPN if I already have the Sports Pack?

No - if you already have Sports 1 and Sports 2, you'll be able to access ESPN through your Programme Guide from July 22.

Wasn't getting snippy-just that there's 3 threads on this subject and the amount of people that keep asking the same questions is amazing,it seems they don't read any of the posts and just jump in with stuff that's been answered a dozen times before.

Wondering can get this in NI at all?? Sucks if not :(
When Setanta left UK stuck NI ppl on Ireland billing. Thats my argument :D

Well considering I was the very first person to respond to this thread, I couldn't have seen any other posts.

The OP didn't mention the Friday part and the website didn't specify it until you clicked into the offer.

You'd feel a lot better by just pointing people politely in the right direction without getting so narky.

They've sent out letters-mine came today,it's now part of the sports pack so it's free forever so long as you keep paying for Sky Sports 1 and 2.

I'm presuming that this offer is only available to Sky customers who have the Sky Sports package, and not UPC customers who have the Sky Sports package?

    No deals for UPC customers.

According to post in the satellite forum they've started activating ESPN already.:)

UPC would need to do a deal with ESPN for that. Sky have no say over how ESPN is carried on non Sky platforms.

Espn is on upc digital anyway, has been for a long. Also no need to subscribe to sky sports either and you get its hd channel for 5 euro extra. Upc better deal in my eyes, sky sports is a crazy price. Nice to have espn without paying extra imo

UPC site says that its 15 euro for the ESPN pack on UPC or a tenner if you have sky sports. How are they charging for the pack if they are giving it away for free with digital tv ?? maybe just the basic ESPN but does this show the premiership?

That part of their site confuses me as well. It may be for the very basic digital tv subscribers. I can assure you that all espn channels are freely available to all upc subscribers on the higher tv packages :)

But you do have to pay extra to get ESPN with UPC....
You need to have the UPC Digital Select Extra+ package in order to get ESPN "freely" included in that package. It's €32/month
You don't get ESPN free with the UPC Digital Value+ package. That package is €23/month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭Rockshamrover

We've had ESPN for a while now. I have to say, I love them.

Their football coverage is excellent as are their hosts and pundits.

They've been showing a lot of the pre season friendlies of late, which is great :D and their coverage of American sports is fantastic.

Uh? Yes, you pay for a higher package but you get loads of extra channels, not just ESPN. You do not need to subscribe to Sky Sports nor pay a separate subscription for it unless your on the basic package. Still a good deal for Sky's sky sports subscribers no doubt. However for me UPC's deal is still better for, cos Sky Sports is a gigantic rip off with your good hard earned money going to line footballers and Murdoch's pockets, in the main! :D

    I'd disagree.

Having just switched from UPC, I find it completely pointless having all these 'extra channels' on the UPC pack which gives you ESPN.
Most of those channels are complete garbage and having 1 football channel is pretty pointless too.

However, for a sports fan, you're going to have the Sky Sports pack if you can and adding ESPN onto that for no extra cost is really a great deal in my eyes since you're not paying for a load of channels the majority of your generic sports fans will have no interest in.

mollser and anyone else who's confused over UPC offering ESPN free anyway-UPC only give you 1 ESPN channel,if you want ESPN America with UPC it'll cost you extra.
Sky are offering all available ESPN channels free if you have the sports pack.
SkySports costs the same every month regardless of whether you have Sky or UPC.

    Hope this clears it up.

    From UPC website:
ESPN, ESPN America & for our HD customers, ESPN HD. Enjoy FA Cup and Aviva Premiership Rugby.

€10 a month if added to Sky Sports or Setanta, €15 a month on its own.

incorrect again! I've got espn america and classic with upc, if you've got eson, you've got the lot, same as sky

maybe so, out is a case of one size does not fit everyone. For me, we get the top package for the disney channels mainly, espn coming as part of that is a good deal. may not suit everyone

    Here's another linky zerks!

    http://www.upc.ie/television/digitalselectextraplus/
    http://www.upc.ie/television/digitalmaxplus/

Click on the 'channels' tab, you'll see the espn channels listed as part of the line up (I note classic is only on the max package).

Not sure how but mollser seems at odds with what's in black and white on UPC'S own website,ah well at least I have all the ESPN channels now for free.
I couldn't justify paying for them before plus I have both Setanta channels for €5 a month also so lots of football for me.:D

Zerks, I'm only telling you as it is with UPC, it is well known that UPC and Virgin Media in the UK entered into a deal with ESPN to include it with their (higher end) tv packages, with no separate subscription costs. This gave them a very strong competitive advantage over sky, which has now been eroded some what (only if you're a sky sports subscriber mind). I have also given you links to black and white evidence that it is included in these packs, what part of this don't you understand?? Their website is a tad confusing, as it is for much of their offerings, wish somebody would back me up though!

Anyway, its also well accepted that Sky's tv offering is better than UPC's, although when you weigh everything up, epg line up, cost etc, I could debate that too, but I won't! :P

Quite true about how UPC give their information to the public,it helps them get in the sneaky price rises etc. and then when customers complain, their answer is "ah sure it's on our website".(said information is so hard to find that people give up looking)

The prices are comparable and on certain packages,Sky works out cheaper-six of one and half a dozen I suppose.
Anyhow my excuse to get a few pints on a Saturday evening is gone now-United games on ESPN at 5.30 were great for that.:D

Ive UPC mmds, think on the old chorus system. I had espn Classic channel, but it went off the channel list a few months ago. I do still have the other 2 espn channels. Is it still available for upc mmds customers? I just thought it was another channel given the chop by upc?????
