Car Transporter from UK

I just got a quote of GBP 480 plus VAT for transport of a car door to door from Southampton to Dublin 6. This seems a bit outrageous. I've heard figures quoted of around EUR 200 here. Any up to date info would be appreciated?

Thanks Johnos, but I can beat that price by going over myself (I think). Car won't be in Southampton until September 12th either unfortunately.

I doubt you will get it back for 200e unless someone is doing it for you as a favour.

I've driven cars back before and it is more expensive than people think but I always enjoy the adventure. In fact I've come back from Southampton before

    Cost:

    Plane 80e
    Hotel 70e
    Petrol 60e
    Tolls 3e
    Food 25e
    Ferry 150e

    Total: 390e

Go over and fetch it yourself so. Shop around for flights as well.

I went at the start of June when I went last so it was an expensive time

    NVD 299 plus VAT

Just called them this morning to arrange for my Bora to come over.

That's good money in comparison to the hassle and costs imo.

    They have bases around Ireland.

Cheers mate. I just realised that I might be working in London area in September so I might be able to expense this. Failing that, the NVD price isn't terrible, or I may well still go collect.

I did pretty much the same journey, just down the road in Bournemouth. I did it all in one day which is tiring and stressful:

    Flight: €60
    Ferry: €120ish
    Food: €30
    Petrol: £150

I just see that NVD did have an offer of EUR 199 for a while:

I'll hold off until September and see if they have another offer. Will also check with Crosbies and Johnsons in NI.

When your pricing around try Motor Vehicle Transportation also. They're based in Keady, Armagh and i have seen a lot of their lorries on the road.

In saying that, the 299 plus vat will be hard to beat.

I'd like to collect this car but they'll only allow collection between 8:30am and 4:30pm on Monday to Friday. It looks like I will have to take a day off or use NVD unless anyone has any other ideas.
