Sold a mazda 6 to 2 polish guys on saturday and now hes ringing me back saying theres no oil in the engine and he wants to return the car. I told him no chance but he said he will ring back again and maby come back to my house. I checked the oil a couple of months ago and it was fine. This happen to anyone before? The car was driving perfect before I sold it, I smell a bit of chancer tbh

    chancer

did they dip the oil stick when they saw the car?

Any person giving even a have hearted inspection of a car they were buying would check the oil.

He is a bit late checking it now and looking for comeback. Not saying there is no oil in the car op, just if he checked it in front of you the issue wouldn't have arisen.

Alternatively tell him to buy some oil and put it in the engine.

I went back to a petrol station to demand more petrol before when I realised it had all gone after only 3 days and that's what they told me to do

If there's no oil in the engine just how did they manage to drive the car away?

Edit> And how will he get it back to you?

Tell him to lift the bonnet, open the oil cap, pour in some oil, start it up and f**k off.....

Its nonsense. Im pretty sure he just regrets buying the car.

Tell him you've a Polish mate called Prawo Jazdy and he will be at the house waiting for them when they come. Should confuse them if nothing else.

btw if they show up with the car and theres no oil in it tell them they should not have driven the car with no oil and you therefore cant be held liable.

Tell him to put it back for sale on done deal

I wouldn't be a dick about it - some people are genuinely under the misapprehension that they have rights in a private sale, so a bad attitude from the OP will leave them feeling that they've been wronged. A firm but polite refusal along with an explanation of why is the way forward here, IMO.

+1 to that. There's no need to tell him to "**** off" especially at this early stage as has been suggested. You're in the right, explain politely, and leave it at that. I don't know why some people automatically default to vulgar abuse when explaining the situation in a calm clear manner might suffice. If he persists and becomes unreasonable then the big FO may be needed but...

No offence but just because a car is driving perfectly doesn't mean it can't be a heap of cr@p. But the buyer should have done his checks so not your fault.

As the others have said be polite then if needed don't be.

wtf they going to do when they come over to your place?

    buyer beware.

even halfdead monkey will check engine and a dipstick...

Try "Uważaj kupującego" or something like that.

Sounds much more like "Beware of the buyer" :)

"Sorry stary, kupiles - teraz to Twoj problem" -> "Sorry mate, you've bought it - it's you problem now"

Its not. I had a taxi driver out a few weeks back and he gave it a good checking over, even checked the oil. Didnt say anything to me.

btw I forget to mention that I left my insurance cert on the car, ive asked them many times now to send it back but they ignored me. I rang my insurance company yesterday to tell them ive sold and theyve taken note of that but they want the cert to suspend or cancel the policy. What would ye recommend I do? Im pretty positive they wont bother sending it back to me by post.

"No oil" probably means "low oil". He probably just doesn't understand cars all that well and have mates egging him on.

Just send your insurance company the insurance cert (they dont want the disc). ALSO - As long as the buyer has signed the transfer of ownership document the car is no longer your responsibility.

Buyer beware so he has no comeback.

You should be checking your oil more regularly than every couple of months though (for your own sake). Might be an idea to up the frequency on your new car.:)

Presume it was a petrol OP, shur don't old Mazda 6 diesels top up their own oil* ;)

i know this is too late now but what i did was get a new number, put this on the ad as accepting call only, no texts. set call forwarding on this one to your actual number so all calls for that number will come through to you; texts won't but you told them not to text you.

sell the car, dump number, save hassle

sure he could have done anything to it in the meantime, could have driven the arse out of it and done damage aside from the oil, how could you possibly be expected to take it back??

All depends how big and hairy he is. And how big and hairy you are OP.I know its easy to say "just tell him to feck off", and legally and technically you are dead right and the law is on your side(ish?). But some people are harder to tell "feck off" to than others, and before everybody jumps down my throat, just have a think through your list of acquaintances and how many of them are "pushovers" and how many aren't. I know a fair few lads that you just won't tell to feck off, they would bring the car back and get their refund, but the best advice is still "tell him to feck off". You also never know who you are dealing with in the case of some of the eastern european guys, a fair few of the ones I worked with tended to settle things with their knuckles, and really weren't too ar5ed about "caveat emptor". More a case of "seller beware".

Only a couple months ago? I pity the poor buyer.

Edit Didn't see the last post.
