    Hi all,

I just need a bit of advice. Im trying to cut down on my crap consumption by cutting out eating chocolate and crisps during the day, and ive replaced them with the likes of dried fruit and nut mixes/bombay mix during work. Is this a healthier choice for controlling my weight during work or am i just making it worse?

Compare the calories between a usual piece of chocolate with the equivalent weight of the bombay mix.

I would imagine that the bombay mix would equate to nearly the same. Try some dark chocolate with a cocoa % above 80-90. You'll find it hard to over indulge with this dark chocolate.

I would choose natural (unsalted & unprocessed) nuts & fruit over bombay mixes and dried fruit. The less processing the better.

Aren't calories by them selves a real bad measure of how healthy or otherwise a foodstuff may be?

E.g. I would have thought consumption of 1000 cals worth of cheap processed foods containing high levels of hydrogenated fats would do far more damage to your body than 1000 of fruit and veg.

I would have thought it better to look at what is in the foodstuff and how you body digests and uses it that would be beneficial to you in making an informed and healthy decision.

Dried fruit is enormously high in sugar as previously suggested less processed the better...

    You prob aren't cutting calories.
Nuts and dried fruit are both very high in caloires. hioghr than cocolate gram for gram.
What size portions are you eating

The OP wanted to know about losing weight.
How healthy a foodstuff is, is generally unrelated to weight loss. Despite how the glossy mags protray the latest trend diet.\

Nuts while very healthy, are very easy to over-consume. There are other factors here, where the calories aren't fully absorbed, and the fact that they tend to keep you full for longer. But, its prob best to avoid, if you are just snacking without measurign amounts.

Dried fruit is crap, its basically the worse part of fruit concentrated.

I love a light spreading of peanut butter on Rivita. Good fats but as long as you consume in moderation is fine.

    That and cottage cheese!

Dont be fooled by the likes of chocolate covered rice cakes etc

Yeah but also lots of Omega 6 (despite the intense nyom-ness). The day I discovered this about peanut butter was a sad, sad day :(
