Apologies if this is posted already but I haven't seen it anywhere.

    http://www.sky.com/ireland/tv/sports/

    Look under ESPN.

Not near a TV so can't see whether its active now and if its not, it doesn't say when it is happening

It wouldn't surprise me if it's just for new customers. Sky don't really like giving things for free.

Will be for all customers also :)

They're gonna lose meas a SS subscriber and ESPN subscriber if it's only available to new customers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

i was looking at that there & it says "from 22 July, if you have the Sports Pack (Sports 1 and Sports 2) you'll no longer be charged for your ESPN subscription and any amount you may have paid after that date will be refunded in your next bill." i paid my bill last week do you think i'll get some of the money i pay for espn refunded in the next bill or is it for people who pay subscriptions on the 22nd & later that are charged incorrectly that get refunded

no i think it's free for everyone with the sports pack from 22nd july if you didnt subscribe to it you now get it from the 22nd & if you did subscribe you stop paying for it. only if you have all the other sky sports channels though(1-2-3-4-news)

It was just a matter of time tbh. With their crap pricing and soccer coverage they had to get on the sky sports package

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭SDTimeout

Great news for the UFC, European football and a lot more.

    Excellent,

Although it does take away one of my excuses for going to the boozer of a saturday evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,973 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Hopefully that'll help quieten down the "Sky Sports fans only like the EPL" crap!

They actualy block out Europa football on Sat as Setanta have the Irish rights but it's great for some Bundesliga and Serie A games in HD.
Now if Setanta would ever **** off and die, so that ESPN could get all of their rights that would be great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭DH2K9

Pits Setanta and ESPN has always been free on UPC :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭Finical

My dad cancelled sky sports and does every summer, but for July he got ESPN for the Copa America. Do ye lads reckon when he gets sky sports back for The Premiership will he avail of this offer?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,763 ✭✭✭Jax Teller

Yep says so on the faq

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,785 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

does this only apply to those on sky or those who get sky sports package on upc as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭Eire-Dearg

I rang Sky earlier seeing if I could get a few quid off (I couldn't, didn't have our account password) but the bloke said the free ESPN only applies to new customers.

    I've a feeling he's wrong though.

I dont think so. I have Sky Sports package on UPC but ESPN channel is unavailable. Bit annoying if its only Sky

Thought it was included but according to UPC site it is an extra alright..
Can understand your frustration alright,it is unlikely to be free to UPC also as SKY will try use this to entice more customers in from UPC

It's included with the 32 euro basic package - it's independent of sky sports

Weird. Channel 407 right? ESPN - 'you do not have access to this channel'

I rang them up and told them i wanted to cancel my subscription, after a lot of 'whys' they said ok.

Then some higher up fella rings me back basically begging me to stay with them he offered me 5 months for 5euro I couldn't refuse that, good stuff :)

My friend rang Sky about it and they said it'll be free for the first three months and then you'll have to pay for it...

Theory 1: I'd guess three months. Drug dealing tactics - they give you a taster for free and hope by the time you have to pay for it you're hooked.

Theory 2: Sky have realised people here are a little pissed at paying more than Britain so have thrown in ESPN to sweeten us up and it's free for good.

I reckon theory 1 is true because the Sky guy said so on the phone to my friend.
