Read an article over the weekend that Apple are planning on launching full size display panels with ATV, network capability, webcams & gaming components built in. It's estimated that up to 10% of cable companies in the US could cancel their subscriptions.

But seriously, could you imagine how sexy an Apple TV would look ???

Yes, full size apple tv would be lovely, but it'd cost €10,000 for the basic model and apple would only make 10 of them to start with regardless of demand

That's not really how Apple work though is it? A TV is a bigger investment than a phone, tablet or computer. You wouldn't get a new TV as often as you'd change those items.

And you could say a phone's a phone, you can pick up a new tv now, and a good one, for the price of an unlocked iPhone, first it's the iTVSet, next year it's the iTVSet 2 with better screen, iTVSet 3 with better screen, cloud services and motion control etc etc

People would buy it and when the next one comes out they'll sell their first one to fund the next, the same as they do with the iPhones and iPads, it's the Apple Effect and the hold they have over consumers

I'd be inclined to disagree with the general refresh cycle that consumers go through. A TV is a major investment and I sincerely doubt people would be up for changing them every 12 months considering the huge cost.

I'd also be doubious of the whole concept, Apple would have to put out at least into the 52" category which would be a massive undertaking, especially given it would have to be the best TV ever made to meet Apple standards.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went this route and would be excited to see what they would come up with.

People don't refresh TVs every year granted so it wouldn't be the cash cows that the idevices are.

I don't think they're too concerned about the hardware as there's a fixed cost of manufacture (& distribution) attached to that, however, the content which is going through itunes with them getting 25% of the revenue, that's a big money spinner for them.

For example I watch very little broadcast TV, but a lot of stuff I "import". I watch it when I want to & usually in blocks of four or so episodes, so if I was able to get all the content I wanted through one device (one plug etc) at a cut cost, I'd probably kill the cable bill of $100 a month.

They'll probably have a Hard Drive so you'll just subscribe to a series, it'll download as available & you watch when you want

Apple don't have the same deals with the iTunes content providers that they have with App Store developers. They have said time and again that the iTunes Store only generates enough revenue to break even.

I don't see why they would go this route when they already have a solution that works on more existing screens, provides the same functionality you are talking about and is a much lower cost to entry.

Personally, any new Apple screen I'm expecting to see are nothing more than Thunderbolt enabled Cinema Displays.

As long as it's not a touch screen TV because that would just be a pain in the ass.

Then they'll have it running a new iOS which you'll have to pay for with each major update, they will find a way to get that extra few quid out of ye
