A Fracking Nightmare!

    "Fracking" for natural gas - where very deep wells are drilled into shale rock beds that hold pockets of natural gas and are then injected with high pressure water, sand and numerous highly toxic chemicals, is becoming a major environmental concern in the USA, where this practice of extracting methane gas is at its most developed.

    There are now plans to use this fracking technique to extract gas from the Lough Allen basin in County Letirim, which could have devastaing health and environmental effects if the poisonous chemicals get into the water supply or the river Shannon itself. Is risking the future of the Shannon basin really worth it for profits for gas and oil companies?:(
