Is anybody watching this rubbish on RTE1 at the moment, a pack of Irish pseudo-celebs climbing Mt. Kilamanjaro for "the kids". We've all seen this type of program before, it's your typical lets all pat ourselves on the back while we help save the world type nonsense, which granted can be entertaining at times. Unfortunately the bunch RTE sent over seem like your typical montrose/Dawson st./Lillies set.

I'm sure i can be forgiven for having a little laugh when Karl Spain had to pull out of the climb, he was hardly going to reach the summit.

I say fair play to them, it's no mean feat to do what they did, and for a good cause too. There were plenty of ordinary folk on that team as well, and it was good to see the human side of the RTE bods up at the top.

I also have gained a new-found respect for the "celebs", some of whom beforehand I'd have regarded as a waste of oxygen.

Clever use of "Breakeven" towards the end as well.

How annoying was Alan Shortt though and his obsession with Síle Seioge...

And also enhancing the profiles of those involved, aren't they just great.

Without the "persons of profile !!" there would be no doc, without the doc there would be less publicity of Crumlin hosp, with less publicity there would be less money raised for the seriously ill kids.

So essentially they aren't climbing a mountain... they're saving lives! They're the REAL heroes.

No one is saying they're the real heroes, the real heroes are those children in the hospital who every day have to wake up and deal with their own illnesses and there's no way of getting away from it.

Those guys, celebrities included, raised money and climbed the mountain, the documentary as philon suggests is to raise the profile of the hospital.

I don't begrudge them at all and say fair play to them, it did not look like a holiday.

This programme brings to mind another thread on Bear Grylls.

Just wondering. I find it hard to believe any production company would permit 6 nights out in the middle of nowhere doing such dangerous stunts with a crew. What I mean is does he actually stay in a hotel eating very nice food.....or does he really survive in the desert on his own urine? Just curious. IIRC there was some controversy over the program before though im not sure if this was the reason. Just curious.
