Hi, is this in the right section, I have a number plate for a porsche 944, part of the plate is 9442, there were 3 different plates, 9441, 9442, and 9443. I am wondering where on earth to go to sell this, is the Irish market any good or should I try a specialised site, thanks in advance.

edited to add, yes i can see its in the wrong place..sorry..

Someone here will correct me if I'm wrong but I think your number plate is worthless in Ireland. That's because the Irish authority that issues reg numbers does so sequentially and it's not possible to walk into them and say I'd like this number to be my reg number please.

Again someone will correct me if necessary but that's what I believe.

+1 I didnt think you could deviate a plate from a vehicle.

For example when we change this over to Southern plates then we can twin the old plates with paperwork or something and then maybe an owner of a porsche 944 would like to have a number plate that says 944 if you know what I mean..Someone told me today that the DVLA sell loads of rare plates on the sly, but I didnt quite beleive it..

UK plates can be bought and sold. Theres websites where you can get them valued and sell them etc. They are advertised in car mags too.

You cant sell ROI plates or change the plates on a car though as they are married to the car. So its worthless here.

Sorry pal I thought you were talking about an Irish plate, not a UK one.

Anyway the DVLA has no juristiction in southern Ireland so they don't have a presence here. Your plate is worthless in the 26 counties I'm afriad, legally at least. Though you might be able to sell it in the UK .... don't know.
