Broadband since '03 but no bill received

I had broadband installed in June'03 but have never been charged or received a bill for it. I was using it until January'11 and the service is still 'live' and connected. The installation form shows the costs as €1,080 p.a. (early days of broadband so quite expensive)

Could the provider send me a bill for the whole duration? (i.e. 8 years)
would I be liable to pay it?

Clearly I don't want to contact the provider to cancel the service because this would notify them of the error but if I don't cancel it then things roll on....

    any advice....

When I worked for BT Ireland I came across many people who had not billed. For some reason the system never triggered the billing to start. Also from what I remember when it did the bills were sent and the money was owed. As far as I remember it can be for the past 5 years too.
If you have used the connection you automatically accept all the terms and conditions of the provided service and your contracted to make payments.
On the plus side it must have got cheaper over time so worse case scenario you could either skip the country or get it sorted. Or keep your head down and hope no one notices, considering the length of time it might never bill.
    Good luck with it.

Spoke to eircom today who can 'take-back' the DSL service without contacting the current provider but I wonder will this just notify them that they haven't been sending bills....
Are the billing sections different to connection/disconnection sections?

Look, at the end of the day you used a service that the rest of us pay hand over fist for, for free... for 8 years.

If they catch you, you're going to have to pay. That is the end of the legal issue here.
If you want I can transfer this thread to the Broadband forum.

It's your only option and you will most likely get away with it.
If not you'll just have to pay for what you have used.
