    Edit: From Corinthians official website.

    http://www.corinthians.com.br/portal/noticias/2011/07/19/21h47-id12351-carlos+tevez.shtml

The board of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista hereby officially to communicate the impossibility of hiring the Argentine striker Carlos Tevez. While recognizing the efforts of Manchester City and all involved in the negotiation, there is no more time for the transfer to be achieved, given that the window to the players from abroad ends on Wednesday, July 20. Aware of the huge crowd dream of having a new striker as a player of Corinthians, the board looks forward to Tevez in the near future.

Very surprising development, it's very much up in the air where Tevez will be playing his football next year.

Football will be immeasurably better not having to hear Carlos Tevez whine about what club hes at.

Obviously soon enough he'll whine about being at Corinthians

But maybe we wont have to hear it.

    From BBC
Manchester City agree Carlos Tevez sale to Corinthians

IN ASSOCIATION WITHPage last updated at 05:18 GMT, Monday, 18 July 2011 06:18 UK

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that an agreement has been reached for the sale of Argentina striker Carlos Tevez to Corinthians.

A £39m bid from the Brazilian club was rejected last week, with City believed to be holding out for £50m.

Tevez, 27, had said he wanted to leave the Premier League outfit to spend more time with his family in his homeland.

"We have an agreement with Corinthians but Carlos now is still a City player," Mancini told Sky Sports News.

The Sao Paulo club, backed by revenue from a new television deal, want to make Tevez a landmark signing by taking him back to the club where he previously enjoyed success.

    TEVEZ SAGA TIMELINE

12 December 2010 - Tevez says he is going to leave Manchester City

20 December 2010 - withdraws transfer request and commits future to club

16 May 2011 - says he will only stay at club if solution found to "family issues"

8 June 2011 - Tevez says he will never return to "small and wet" Manchester

4 July - confirms he is going to leave Manchester City

18 July - City boss Roberto Mancini says club have agreed to sell Tevez to Corinthians Moving to South America would also help to solve Tevez's problem of being separated from his family.

Corinthians president Andres Sanchez claimed last week that Juventus had entered the race to sign Tevez but added his own club would not increase their offer.

However, Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian revealed a few days ago that a deal with Corinthians was "close", with the player himself keen on a return to the club he previously represented in 2005 and 2006.

The former West Ham forward, who joined City from Manchester United in the summer of 2009, is under contract with Mancini's side until June 2014.

Last season Tevez was joint top scorer in the Premier League, with 20 goals.

Asked whether Tevez would now be discussing personal terms, Mancini replied: "I don't know this. I repeat, at the moment, Carlos is still a City player."

Mancini is currently on his club's pre-season tour of North America and added: "I want to wait. At the moment we are here, we are working with the other guys. We should think about this."

If Tevez does go, his 23-year-old fellow countryman Sergion Aguero, who is rated at £45m by Atletico, is regarded as a natural replacement.

Next summer he'll be playing in Spain or Italy. I'll put money on it as soon as the bookies open.

Yet again a football breaks a contract and get what he wants rather than what his employer wants from him,sad sign of the times..

    Bad rubbish? No way.

He spent 5 years in England, and has had enough of the serious communication problems that he's been having with regards his children. People can point out that he's on £200,000 a week and has moaned constantly, but money isn't everything. I don't blame him for reiterating his stance several times over. He apparently tried to leave last Summer to no avail, tried to leave during January to no avail.

He was left with no other option other than to push for this, which he did and fair play to him. He's got his wish.

He also deserves great credit for giving not an ounce less than 100% for whatever club he played for, despite whatever problems he had. Great professionalism.

    lucyfur09 wrote: »

So what? If it's to a country that he'll be comfortable in and that he'll have little/no problems with regards his family, who gives a flying fúck? And for what it's worth, I think he'll stay at Corinthians.

It's fairly laughable that people still suggest he's all about money when he could retire today and comfortably be a multi millionaire.

And a loyalty card is a funny one too. When you think about it, there is no real loyalty left in football today, maybe some rare cases.

Generally, when a club doesn't want a player anymore, even against the player's wishes, they will offload him and force him out the door, and nothing is said about loyalty.

But when a player wants to leave, for whatever reason, against the club's wishes, he's branded disloyal.

    What a load of bullshít.

Aside from Tevez, who will enjoy being the best player in his league, anyone else think this moves represents a big move for South American Football? This might make them able to keep players that little bit longer.

I think a lot of people are wondering where Corinthians are getting 40 million and the wages to keep Tevez happy. Many of those people will be Corinthians employees who will probably want a raise.

Big fee for him seeing as he's 28 in Jan.

Aguero to replace him I'd imagine.

I don't know how he managed to stay sane with his wife and kids so far away, I know I couldn't do my job 100% in those circumstances. Maybe his wife would make the journey to Brazil or if not at least live their part time and he could visit more.

Not all about money, football needs to burst its bubble so teams can play with passion not just learn how to survive at the bottom of the top league playing football its fans hate with only the aim to survive by any means.

He knew what Manchester was like before he signed for City, he knew how far away from home it was. He wasn't forced to sign for them, and it was hardly a case of him being unaware of what living in Manchester entailed. Wrt communication problems, its his fault. I have no time for anyone who moves to a foreign country as is not prepared to learn the language

If he dislikes Manchester so much, why sign for City?

I'd be sceptical about his motivation to leave. He says he wants to be nearer his Wife and Kids, but wasn't this the lad who was given 10 days off last season, and choose to head off to Tenerife with his girlfriend and not home to see his kids?

He's also had a number of other excuses for wanting out, notably his falling out with Gary Cook

Yeah there's no loyalty in football anymore, but contracts still stand. As long as City hold his contract, its down to them where he goes

Sponsorship deals with national businesses. I think that's how Ronaldo was signed by Corinthians. Local businesses fund part of the transaction and agree to take on a % of wages as well. Player then appears in ads etc promoting the companies.

Also rich patrons/fans fund % of deals.

They discussed this in fourfourtwo last month. Basically what they were saying was that as the country is in the midst of an economic transformation, millions have been lifted from poverty and new middle class has emerged.

The disposable income is now there to be spent on football. The value of TV deals and shirt sponsorship have hence increased dramatically and clubs are making players partners in shirt sponsorship deals, I think Ronaldo was getting 3% of Corinthian shirt deal, which heavily subsidises their wages. Ronaldo apparently was on 350k per month, Ronaldinho on something similar

I don't have a problem with the guy for wanting to live closer to home but the manner in which he’s spoken about it is tiresome, his attitude towards United having left was poor too. I’m sick of hearing about his woes. You’d think a guy with his upbringing would have a better sense of perspective.

I think there’s a lot of negativity around him – there’s always been some baggage attached to him, from the third party ownership onwards - that doesn't do the sport any favours.

Classy player, that much I won’t dispute.

One of the best players in the Premier League IMO, City could miss him big time. Despite his whining and wanting out he always seemed to put in 100% on the pitch and City were definitely a better team with him than without him, best of luck to the guy, a real talent.

Wonder who will step up to the plate of scoring goals for them, who was their second highest scorer last season?

Edit: Balotelli/Yaya tied with 6 :o (PL goals only)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Almost time to get ready for the next season and start actively following transfer and football news once again.

Have to say, I'm not too disappointed with Tevez going, after his machinations last season I lost all admiration for him and even though he did a good job on the pitch, if he does not want to play for City, then I don't want him there either.

In fairness, Balo spent much of last season injured or suspended and Yaya isn't even a striker.

I think Flah is right, Dzeko will hopefully come good and it's not like we don;t have any other options in that area and I'd be delighted if we got Aguero.

It seems Corinthians don't think any agreement on a fee has been reached

    http://www.click-manchester.com/sport/manchester-city/1213709-corinthians-question-manchester-city-boss-mancinis-tevez-deal-claim.html
“In fact, the club (City) sent a counter-proposal, which, due to the time difference, has only just reached the Corinthians board this morning.

“In the counter-proposal, the Premier League club asks for changes in the form of payment and also in the total value of the transaction.

“Finally, the president Andres Sanchez advises that there is no concrete agreement with Tevez at this time and the counter-proposal will be analysed by him and the board.”

I don't hate him but in no way do I look upon him with any kind of fondness from his time at Old Trafford. He's a tosser plane and simple and has always been somewhat of a trouble maker off the pitch.
I remember when he was originally at Corinthians and turned up for a press conference in a Man Utd shirt. Total and utter disrespect for the club.

Someone mentioned it earlier but Brazil's economy is really on the up. They're also due a pretty big bump in their TV deal with Globo so are spending it in advance. Pretty sure that little rat Koorabchian will have arranged some sort of 3rd party deals. They'll make the money back.

Aguero will be a great replacement but won't be as prolific. I'm also not sure if Dzeko will be given the chance to succeed. Crazy-ass club.

My theory (completely without any proof mind you)....
City/Sheik mansoor agree to release Tevez but not to a European team
They agree a fee with corintians (considerably less than 50M..say 25M)
They announce 50M for 2 reasons, 1 to save face and 2 to balance the books better with this financial probity thing coming up

Once more this transfer stinks of Kia Joora...however his agents name is spelt. It is explainable but just like some of Tevez's previous moves doesent make much sense at first glance but of course involves loads and loads of money. Tevez is a great player, we all know this and on the field there are not many strikers I think are better than him in the world. It seems finally his agent will actually make him happy and not just appease him by giving him loads of money. Not sure quiet how he has pulled it off but if this improves his family life etc (some things are more important than football) and can still earn a very very good living from what he loves (playing football) then I say fair play to him, good luck and although ill miss seing him play in the prem ill still look forward to seing what he can go on the international scene.

Good luck Carlos.... now time for Sergio Aguero

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭Jamie Starr

First of all, I hope this move goes through for him. People talk about player power: the reasons players have power over clubs is because clubs give players that power. Clubs want success, kit sales etc.- they use players just as much. As someone mentioned earlier, people need to stop making clubs out to be the victims. If clubs are the victims of anything, especially big ones like City, it's their own greed. Who's doing more of a disservice to the values of the club: Tevez, or the guy that signed on the "Ethiad Stadium" deal?

There's a big confusion between the words "club" and "supporters". The old-fashioned values which supporters carry with them, 'my father and his father before him supported City' types, open your eyes! I can totally see why Tevez leaving is considered a bit of a backhand to fans, who could see one of their best players go, but this "Oh, he's betrayed the Club, lord have mercy on him!" mentality needs to end.

Secondly, I admire Tevez. Not for the way he's handled this, or a lot of his transfers for that matter- for a start, his agent seems to be just about as crooked as they come. Plus, I feel a bit begrudging, for the money he's on, my word, he could've done worse. However, for admitting he genuinely wasn't happy at City, and trying to get out and get his personal affairs in order, I think he's admirable. Ryan Giggs is a model pro who's given everything to Manchester United, but is it worth giving your all to a football club if you're going to bang your own brother's wife? Similar story with Rio Ferdinand, if the rumours about him are true. Money, fame etc. still leaves some people with hole in their lives: at least Tevez is trying to fill it in a respectable way. Maybe most fans don't give a damn what happens on a personal level for players, as long as they're producing for the club. If that's your attitude, then you're just as guilty as anyone or anything else for the way players go about their dealings these days, or the supposed lack of respect or morals in modern football- there's very little compassion, a great deal more vapid, self-serving incompetence.

And if he is really hurting supporters, why? Every game you've gone to watch him play, he's given you your money's worth. So if it's down simply to Tevez's perceived fickle-nature, take a look at a real example of player power: Wayne Rooney's transfer drama. The guy had no real reason to act like a twerp, unlike Tevez, other than money-lust. He got his wish, and once he started playing again, in the ultimate act of fickleness, outraged supporters, or football fans in general, suddenly couldn't give a toss. One reason your tickets are getting more expensive every year is because if this guy feels like a pay rise, he does at little dance. I'd much rather see someone move for a genuine reason, as opposed to wrenching more money out of someone's pocket (probably yours) because he feels like it- having sex with a granny now and again hurts your promotional deals.

I could go on, but I think you get my point. I say goodluck to the guy, he may not be a model pro, or a model person, but I don't see many people in or outside of the game who could point a finger at him, and those people are generally the type who don't enjoy doing that sort of thing anyway.

In my view he's a "model pro" because he always gives 100% on the field of play - even in contexts where he was deeply unhappy or unfocused off the pitch.

If this deal completes for the mooted figures it will be one of the most interesting transfers in a long time. South American clubs getting in the game for such sums would be extraordinary.
