Era, no point worrying about that kind of stuff until you find yourself turning 60!!

On a more serious note, I would think your purpose in life will become clearer once you start doing what you yourself really want to do in life...

    Heya
Thanks for that! I guess you are right and I still don't know what I want to do with my life. Not feeling satisfied in work so I've been doing some volunteering and chatting with friends to see how they feel about being fulfilled etc. but it's different for everyone. I'll keep searching!!!

Treat is as a good thing - you get to try anything you fancy and maybe you find one that sticks. If you don't and you get to the end of your life having done lots with with it and enjoyed the journey, how bad is that?

I don't think we have a "purpose" tbh. If a "purpose" is a pre-defined, set thing. I don't think anyone was "put" here for a reason.

I don't think this a bad thing. Art, for example. What is its purpose? It doesn't really have a function. Every work of art is different. When a painter picks up his brush, he doesn't know how its going to turn out, but that doesn't make the end product any less valid.

Most people want to be "successful". What does that even mean? For some success is becoming a CEO, for some, its raising a family, for others, its improving the world. Some are born with millions, some strive to make a million, some just want food on the table. What I'm saying is that success or happiness cannot be defined, and although I've used money as an example, its actually rarely about money.
I think to be successful, you have to realise that there's no set definition. Try to just "be" and be happy - that's success - I think. And bringing joy to others. Because where would we be without others anyway?

I think as "mankind" we should just keep living, keep 'developing' (whatever that means) and continue to try and make the world a place where everyone can try their hand at this "success".
All art is beautiful in someone's eyes!

There's my wisdom for you lol.

    Hi OP,

I recently had some what similar feelings awhile back, thinking what are my goals I want to achieve in life, I felt very depressed because I have just finished college awhile ago in course in which I lost interest in. The job related to it either consisted of lab work or mostly office and report writting. It pays well, very well, but I just couldn't imagine myself doing this for the rest of my life. You see before I filled out my CAO I was in the mindset of "You have to go to college" and "make lots of money" so it was a matter of picking courses from a list that I thought was most suitable. It was pften looked down apoun if you didn't persue an acedemic career. We had very poor career guidance at school, but I'm partly to blame aswel. I don't mean to waffle but what I'm saying is that money isn't everything, and the road to financial success is a very boring one at that.

I think that you need to do some soul searching and try and figure out what you want from life, or to be more excact what you enjoy doing most of all.

Remember You only have one life, do something extraordinary with yours:)

Thanks guys, I think I've been too lucky in life so keep demanding more from it! Really I have everything I need, my life is perfect so maybe that's the problem!!!!

One of the most important things in life imo is to love what you do. Pursue your passion. I agree with @effluent in that this isn't a dress rehearsal. Dream BIG and get to work on realising those dreams:)

Other than being happy, what other purpose do you think there should be?

Thanks for all the replies, I am still trying to get to the bottom of all this!!!
Well I suppose I want to feel fulfilled in some way, like I'm useful in society, not pushing paper like I do all day every day! I do have what is in theory a great job, secure and I get well paid, I spent years in college and have worked in other countries to get experience to have the job I have but is there more to life? Is that 'IT'???
