    Hello all,

I have polish satellite in my house. We have an nBox HDTV recorder box (picture of back attached). Instructions are in Polish and neither of us are too good at tech things :o

I would like to get Saorview and I'm wondering if it is possible with this decoder. It looks very similar to the 1st box in this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056284276

I'm not very clued up on this tech stuff so if you need more information to answer my question please ask and I'll do my best to get it.

    Thanks in advance,

    WM

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply John Mac.

I've been doing some searching on the net and from this link:

    http://n.pl/oferta/sprzet/dekoder_hd_z_cyfrowa_nagrywarka.html

and using google Chrome I see it states specification as follows:

    Specifications
    built-in hard drive 250 GB
picture in high definition (HDTV), 720p, 1080i
Scaling SDTV signal (PAL) to HDTV (720p, 1080i)
    Surround Sound 5.1 Dolby Digital
Connectors: HDMI, Component (YPbPr), euro, Ethernet and USB
compliance with the standards of MPEG 4 and MPEG-2
    7-day Electronic Program Guide (EPG)
    16-segment alphanumeric display
two tuners (satellite two-wire installation recommended)
port for connecting to the Internet
    menu in Polish

I think Saorview is broadcast in MPEG4 too. Does this make you think that it might be able to receive Saorview??

    Thanks again.

    It's a DVB-S(maybe S2) satellite receiver and not a DVB-T terrestrial receiver. Saorview is DVB-T + MPEG4 so it will not work.

So I've been doing some reading.

And I think I've decided that I will go for FreeSat (means one less box in the house).

Just to be sure can anyone confirm the following for me:

I need to buy a second Satellite dish and cable.
Point it at the Sky satellite (can find it roughly by looking at where other dishes in my area are pointing).
And plug the cable into the spare input at the back of my box.
Then I should have FreeSat & Polish Satellite from the one decoder box (there are two inputs at back).

    Is this correct?

    Thanks in advance,

    WM

No read need for a second dish, if you have a 80 cm dish pointing to hotbuird you can get a second or more lnb fitted to that one that points to 13 and 28 e on one dish.

you shoudl be able to run these into teh two seperate sat connectors. Does the box support diseqc?

    Hello,

Is this the kind of LNB I would need:

    http://www.adverts.ie/723109

Or would I be better of getting a second single LNB and lining it up to next to my existing one??

And yes I've no idea what diseqc is:o but please forgive me as I'm new to all this and thanks for your patience.

At which satellite position is your dish currently pointing?

Freesat is transmitted from 28 deg east. That monoblock LNB you list is for the 19 and 13 deg. east satellite positions.

Depending on the type of dish you have you may be able to purchace a bracket that will allow you to mount a second or more LNB's on the dish. You could also use a dish capable of mounting a number of LNBs.

DiSEqC (Digital Satellite Equipment Control) is a standard which allows a satellite receiver to instantly switch between different channels on different satellites using two or more LNBs and a diseqc switch. Some receivers do diseqc switching some don't.

For the Irish digital channels an aerial and suitable Saorview/MPEG-4 terrestrial TV or STB would be the best option, depending on your location a rabbit-ears aerial might work.

Having a look at the spec of the proprietary N receiver it appears that the second LNB input is for the recording feature (with second cable from a twin LNB) and is similar to a Sky HD receiver and so may not be suitable for freesat and probably no diseqc either.
