    Cheers then Vino....

Alexandre Vinokourov has announced his retirement from cycling a week after breaking his right leg in a crash on the Tour de France.
The 37-year-old Kazakh star told French television on Sunday that “I will stop there,” and he is looking for a new role within the Astana team. He was expected to retire at the end of the season.

I'm no fan because of the doping but have to see things in perspective.
He was a victim of the old Soviet block sports system where as a child was taken into the sports academy and allowed to do little else than cycle.
Ullrich was the same and IMO both were effectively victims of systemic child abuse.
It's almost impossible for them to reach early adulthood at least with a rounded and balanced personality.
I wish him well in his retirement.

Without being nasty it's also good to see his generation go from the sport too.

Jens Voigt is of the SAME generation, hope he has a few more years left in him, but at 39,things are not in his favour ;)

Frank Schleck wants him to sign on for another 4 years, can't say I blame him

He says it's to help keep Astana in the world tour and he's also doing it for Kazakhstan.

Vino won't retire.(unless he has done some irreparable damage to his hip/pelvis)) He will be back for at least few more seasons(my tuppence worth). As Rob Fowl said earlier, this guy knows knows no other way of life. I must admit I have a love / hate relationship with him. Always in awe of his incredible power but ultimately a cheat. Below is a photo I took just before his TT in Bordeaux 2010 TDF. He oozes horsepower.
