photoshop newbie question

    just simply trying to convert a hi res photo to look like an oil on canvas so can get it box canvas framed for my mother for her b day guys using cs5 but never really played around with it

    Should be an option for it in Filters --> Artistic (Top bar to the right of File, edit, Image etc.)

    That's not a bad option for something quick. But the results generally look digital. The best bet and new in CS5 is the new Mixer Brush. You need a little skill to use it but the results can look very authentic. Here's a link for more info. You could also try and get a trial download of Corel Painter. That'll do the job.
