i put down slate as a finish for the hearth for a fire place, now my query is

what can i use to fill the gaps between the slates though will withstand heat???

has anybody done this??? would grout be good enough for the job
the fire place will not be in use as i have it blocked up at present....
im also going to do another fire place in the house using the same slate, this will have a stove sitting on it an not an open fire place like the other one...

    cheers ;)

If not in use then use grout. If its going to be used then maybe fire cement might be an idea.

I imagine yea could use grout. Like black grout. Maybe fill in big gaps with morthar then a skim of grout. The heat from stove wudnt cause grout any harm. Ser look how many stoves have tile backrounds.
