Cars blaring music....with a twist

Anyone noticed the number of cars driving around with asian/middle eastern music blaring out of them this summer? I think it's hilarious! The music itself is fairly funny in it's own right (I keep expecting everyone to break into dance when I hear a Bollywood-type tune all of a sudden) but the funniest bit is seeing Irish people's reactions to the drivers who are blaring the music.

They pay no notice to the usual chart sh1te being played at full volume (probably out of fear of some verbal or physical abuse for doing so) but when they hear foreign tunes they look at the drivers with disgust and/or mirth. I guess it's another example of how bigoted and xenophobic we still are. Of course, it will be a different story when we fast forward 20 years and those who are playing these tunes might actually get out of the car and give them a hiding too!

I'm just looking forward to the day when groups of teens start singing these songs at the back of buses! I'm sure incorrect attitudes will remain strong among natives until then.

Modern "pop" music that you young folks like to play, loudly playing from a car, does not cause me any concern.

The lady in the Lexus playing Joe Dolan at 120dB in Tesco's car park,on the other hand, disturbed me greatly.

    I mean...

I don't usually drive with the window open, but it entertained me one hot day to drive through town with Lyric playing something stirring and martial to the world at large.

Strangest post I've ever had the misfortune to waste a minute of life reading and another minute of my life commenting on.

So you are essentially saying that Irish people are being racist because they don't like music that they have never heard before. I think its you who is being racist for making that kind of generic slur.

Billy Joel or Louis Walsh's boys ?

    I could forgive the former.

Did I mention racism in my OP?

BTW The "you're one to talk" arguement is only used by Fine Gael these days

People only started blaring music out of their cars after seeing it in GTA. FACT.

I'm not talking about 1 car. I live very close to Dublin city centre in a 2nd floor apartment where I can't smoke so I have to do it out the window. The building is right next to a busy intersection so when cars stop at lights and I'm out smoking I notice these things.

I've seen people of varied ages give these types of reactions to this type of music while stopped at the lights. They hear the music, they react as mentioned because they know they are not going to get an adverse reaction due to the people playing the music. I'm not generalising here at all as I smoke a lot and see this quite a bit.

Same as people not batting an eyelid when radio tunes are played by locals at a similar volume - I think everyone can agree on that one at least in a city centre.

I agree with OP and yes I'am Xenaphobic but also if it isnt good music I generaly give the driver the 'I will gut you with a fish hook' look and they just sort of turn their heads until Iam no longer in their perifferal vision :D Its hilariouse to watch them try and take off without looking strait ahead lol

I like to get peoples reactions by blaring the most rediculously cheesy songs I can think of.

James Taylor always gets people looking at you a bit oddly.

You mentioned Xenophobic - which is the same thing, only a better sounding term, but it still means the same thing.

Myself and a few friends dressed up in black suits and wore these.

Then we got into a green Ford Fiesta, put down all the windows and drove to our nearest nightclub blaring 'Time To Say Goodbye' out, while all four of us stared straight ahead. If we had people looking at us from the path, or a car alongside, we wouldnt respond for a few seconds, but then all four would turn our heads simultaneously to look at them.

    Childish, but great fun altogether.

This is a particular favourite of mine to blast while driving through Ballinrobe.
