    Budget: preferably €500 or less

Intended use: Not too much apart from email/surfing - bit of video playback and a few games (not graphics intensive)

Mobility: Won't leave the house - intended as a more flexible option to desktop for older person recovering from surgery

    Warranty: Not important

What Operating System do you use? Win7.

Main asks are for a 17"+ screen and decent battery life.

Any recommendations that could be sourced quickly?

Your best bet is probably to have a look on http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk to find one that suits your needs. Seems to be the best for cheap laptops in UK/Ire. You can search by monitor size too.

Dabs.ie is another I use, but I just had a quick look at didn't see any 16"+ for the price worth getting.

    Maybe something like this; http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_R730_1041049.html

Huge screen, HD+, good resolution, can be connected to a tv, and as for speed/power, it's at least "above average", if not better. This is potentially too good for what you're looking for, so check out the website and you'll find some for closer to €400.

I personally like Samsung, so I could be biased. Just take a look, and you'll find plenty to choose from.
