Swimming during period

    Hi all,
This is probably a very stupid question to be asking but feel like I have to! Got my period this morning and for first day or two it tends to get sorta heavy. Had planned on going swimming today, as its my only day to do that until next Saturday (without the kids hanging off my arms!) but am not so sure now. I've heard that tampons are effective when swimming but am still quite worried that there could be a leak of some kind-I would die of embarrassment if that happened !

My question is are tampons definitely 100% effective when you're in the water? I've never swam while on my period so dont know! In reality, however, I'll probably only be in the pool for about 45 mins anyway....

    Thanks in advance

Yep Op, Sunflower27 is correct. Tampax is your solution. There are all sorts of absorbencies available, but I would suggest that you take the time to practice insertion if you are not used to them.

Put one in before you get to the pool in the comfort of your own bathroom. By putting one foot up on the toilet lid and taking it nice and slowly you will get one in easily.

Use the one with the applicators as they are easier. Holding them in the correct place, your fingers should touch your body before you press in the inner tube which pushes in the tampon. You will know that its in correctly if you cannot feel the tampon when its in.

Even if your flow is heavy, you should get a couple of hours out of a superplus one.

Hi OP! As other posters have said, tampons work perfectly fine! They sit so far inside that you don't really have to worry aout leakage.

Be sure to find the right size for you. I'd suggest tampax pearl as I've (personally) found them much easier to use than other tampons. If you're worried about leaking etc you could try a higher absorbency (provided it's not uncomfortable for you).

If you want to be extra sure you could try inserting one right before you take a nice long bath and you'll see how well they work!

It's important to change tampons just before and after swimming but other than that you shouldn't have any problems with them! Good luck! :)

Have you ever thought of using a mooncup? They're much better for swimming because they won't absorb any of the pool water.
