Standard reply around these part will be, "Might not be worth the cost."

And that my well be true. It depends on the age of the camera and the price of a replacement.

Will it work in other modes? Such as shutter or aperture priority? Could be a good time to learn!

    Does the flash work?

Normally auto mode will pop up the flash on most models but as yours doesn't have a pop up flash perhaps it might check the flash circuit and if your flash tube is broken then it may not work (just a possibility).

Took it asunder, removed internal battery, replaced internal battery. Camera perfect. (only one "spare" screw left over too :D)
