Under 19's Euros 1998

Hey all,

I'm just wondering if you the people of the soccer forum could really help me.

I'm currently looking for the Irish squad that was at the 1998 Under 19 European Champions...they beat Germany on penalties in the Final...

Any help would be fantastic

on my first look did it change from the u18 to u19 and so maybe you were looking for the wrong tournament?

thats an old one mate from 2008. sure with some more research you could do an update and maybe add a bit more content, career stats etc? would be a good read im sure!

The main reason they won the tournament was they were up to a year older or a year longer playing underage football than other teams. The FAI brought in a rule change to bring Irish qualifying birthdates in line with rest FIFA couuntries and players who were playing under 19 one year got to play again if their birthdate fell before certain date. Cant remember specifics but my brother was playing under 15s football at the time and loads of players in his league were able to play another year at that age level.
