License for Air Rifle

I am in the process of buying an Air Rifle from a member of the forum.
I have filled in and submitted my FCA1 on the 23rd of May and have heard nothing back since.
I already hold FC for a HMR and a Shotgun and have had 2 firearms certs for more than 10 years.
I rang my local station a number of times to be told to either ring back after their finished their tea break or the Garda is not on duty.

I have called in to the station and spoke to a civilian admin person who took my number but failed to ring me back, she could see my application on the system but couln't understand the hold up.

    Whats my next step?
I doubt I have been declined the FC as they have no reason to do this as I have had firearms for years and due to the nature of my work I am AGS and PSNI security cleared, so my character is deemed to be good :p

Someone seems to have dropped the ball on the application, do i go straight to the super with this ?

As is the case for another member recently it has opnly been 6 weeks. They have 3 months. he fact that your details are on the system is a good thing as it means someone has entered them onto PULSE.

I would imaine its only a matter of time now till you get the receipt and grant letter. Probably both at the same time or shortly after the other.

Hang tough, unfortunately, is all i can suggest.

its only been in for 6 or 7 weeks lad they have 3 months to process it so sit tight and be patent! I was waiting 5weeks for my last application and a lad i no who handed his into the same station the day after was waiting over 8 weeks! You have no grounds to complain about the hold up altho i feel your pain

Thanks for the reply, My mistake I thought the max you had to wait is 8 weeks these days.
I'll wait its just annoying when someone says they'll ring back and they don't.

I thought because I had the 2 other firearms it would be a a quick and straightforward procedure.

On the plus side the Magpies are getting very tame at back of the house eating bread put out for them so should have a few targets when I finally get the rifle :)

It's crazy that you can possibly have to wait up to three months to get a firearms licence, especially as you are already on the system. How long does it take to enter your details onto the pulse system? It should be a formality seeing as you have already been issued with firearm certs before. The efficiency in this country is staggering. :(

This is the public service we're talking about :P

I'm not defending the system or how well or poorly it works, but the key factor as i see it is that firearm ownership is NOT a privilege in this country unlike some/most other countries. We are not automatically entitled to a firearm and while having previous firearms is a bonus and should ease the progress of the next application An Gardai still treat every application as a "new" one.

Obviously this varies from district to district.

The concept of the 3 month time limit was if an application is processed prior to the 3 month period great, but its main focus was to give the applicant a reasonable time frame to wait. Prior to this it could be from 2 weeks to 18 months for a license. Now while, as said, i don't defend the way the system has functioned so far it currently is the time frame set out. So while we still have some getting theirs in 2 weeks and others STILL waiting over 12 months for theirs it is a goal to aim for, for An Gardai, and hopefully it will run smoother as time goes on.

Took 6 months for an air rifle for me, was a matter of getting the FO to take the finger out.
