I think it's not allowed to ask about downloading music for free. If you're not tech savvy, look up youtube to mp3 converters and go from there. benderconverter.com is also very easy to use if a little slow.

Any mp3 player that has a headphone socket will accept a small portable speaker that uses a jack. Argos have plenty of cheap ones that will do the job fine. The dock speaker that suit ipod/itouches/etc are generally expensive as apple charges their makers. If you can live without the charging and playing at the same time these are perfectly fine. Some work on batteries and others require to be plugged in.

If you're daughter is likely to lose or break things then I'd opt for a cheap mp3 player, you can get simple ones from argos/amazon/maplin. They don't require you to use itunes just plug it into your pc and either drag and drop the music onto it like you would for move a file from one folder to another. Just look at the ones in your price range, and is sufficiently large for her music collection.
