Hi all, looking for a bit of advice please.
I bought a car off a trader (not a registered trader) 3 months ago for my girlfriend and i never received the logbook. I have rang him and asked him for it continuously for the last 2 months and no joy. He keeps saying he is waiting for the previous owner to sort out a duplicate. I know i should not have purchased the car without seeing it but i took his word for it :(. I have rang Shannon and tried to get a duplicate myself but to no avail. Can i leagally challenge the guy i bought the car from ?? It only cost us €650 for the car but i dont wanna be out of pocket.

Any advice would be appreciated guys

I don't think so as technically it was not his car to sell, maybe say to him that you are reporting him to Revenue if he doesn't sort it out might speed him up. Your best option is to get contact details of the owner of the car and get in touch with them to get the replacement form and then sign it over in your name. Perhaps mentioning that you need to use the toll roads with it might speed the process up :D

You should also check that the car is not stolen as you could end up being prosecuted for handling stolen goods.

Isn't there are toll bridge in Waterford. A few parking tickets may well do the trick too or even the thread of reporting the seller to Revenue.
