This is a thread that gonna get lost on boards pretty quickly....but I have to ask it for the sake of my sanity.
Does anyone have any idea/opinion as to why FAS does not offer a basic Linux qualification?
I have been on FAS courses before(4 in total) and the question keeps getting raised. "Why no Basic Linux Certs?".
And the answer is allways the same....."if you want linux certs then ask and eventually they will be available" ...but its been 2 years now and still know sign.
    inb4 microsoft owns FAS threads.

There are places that run it but easiest thing to do is just go sit the exams.
I think the people that sit linux exams are usually people working with it for years that are just doing the exams to get the cert but do not need it for a job.

It depends on the course and the training centre. Call whichever training centre is running the course you are interested in.

I understand that you are better getting Linux certed externally. But thats my point. Why is FAS so phobic to linux?
I have set a couple of FAS network courses through BT in Dublin, and they have any amount of private Linux Certs. So if FAS is paying these guys to outsource stuff you would think that FAS would be interested in what is allready popular with them.
Also, at every course I have set, the class always asks about Linux at the meet and greet stage but still no certs. I just think it odd is all.

Although FÃS do bend the rules now and then (lol) they are not supposed to spend public money on private certification (no jokes please) approved certs like fetac ...city and guilds etc you know the sort ...approved courses...
However if you wait a few weeks a new voucher system should be announced which should allow you greater control over your training and you won't have to go to FÃS ...you should be able to use these in any private training company also...

You don't need a cert to learn about Linux. Download Ubuntu and check the HOWTO docs. You will learn far more by doing that. Ticking boxes does not mean competance in Linux.

What cert are you looking to get and why are you looking to get it?
FAS will provide funding/grants for any number of courses (once you are eligible) that they dont provide themselves and as someone mentioned this method is due to improve for the learner over the next few months.
The reason FAS don't provide any "In house" Linux stuff is simply because of:
A - The dont have any instructors that have the relevant skills to teach it and can't hire them.
    and (more importantly)
    B - It wouldn't be that popular.
C - They cannot provide everything.

You're already two years waiting and you could have it done in your own time at this stage.
I assume you want to pass one of the linux certifications?
In this day and age you have to take responsibilty for your own learning (no matter what field) and do your own research, especially in IT (niche areas)
    Here's a good starting point:
    http://linuxreviews.org/beginner/
And in fairness, the field of *ux has probably more free training resources out there than any other.
