High intensity running versus jogging

I currently jog for about 40mins twice a week. I don't jog particularly fast, but I would be out of breath when I finish. I find it quite boring and tedious to be honest.

I have been reading these forums for the last while and I am reading a lot about high intensity interval training and wonder would 21-24 minutes of this be better than 40 mins jogging.

I have been looking at this site:

    http://www.intervaltraining.net/hiit.html

and am wondering if this would be a good programme to start with? Also, would I need to start with the 30 second HIIT workout or should I skip to the 60 second since I have some level of fitness already.

I basically want to burn fat and increase fitness and wonder if the longer slower jog or HIIT would be better for this goal.

    I'd probably do both tbh.
Except I don't jog or run.

But I would find a balance of some "steady-state cardio" and some "high(er) intensity" work, like intervals, hillsprints or "paleo hiking"*

You would probably need to start as written. When they say "high intensity" they mean "high intensity" not "a bit higher intensity".
Not that you can't do minute intervals.

So like go for a run some days, go for some sprints some days.
Dismiss anything that suggests either is a waste of time.
Find what interests you, stick with it.
Or play a sport. Game of 5 a side, if you actually try, is basically a 1 hour interval session.

*(I just made that last one up, its the most wanky name I have thought of for anything this week. I'm proud of that.)

My gym has free wifi so i bring my smartphone with me and do 45 mins of cardio while watching youtube videos, documentaries and browsing net. Time flys by. Just check heart rate every few mins to ensure at intensive enough range.
