    Hi folks,

Think im in a bit of trouble. I have 7 unpaid parking tickets, they've gone through the courts over 2 years ago and the total amount including expenses is now €1700

I cant afford this.... I was talking to the gardai and they told me my other option is wheatfield. The fine says 14 days... will I actually be held this long? Is there a chance ill be in and out in a day?

Also, im going to Canada next year, will this effect my visa application?

    Cheers

since you have been to court and fined, then it could effect your travels, but then again these parking fines are minor offences

You could be lucky and be in and out on the same day, i know a guy who had a fine of 3000 and he was out that evening.

As going to canada you may have problems here as they are very strict with visa applications.

If they are tickets issued on behalf of the council as opposed to gardai then expenses will probably make up part of the fine. If this is the case then you will serve the full term of imprisonment as detailed on the warrants. All of the terms of imprisonment will run concurrently though which means that for example you have five warrants each for two weeks you will only serve two weeks as all of the warrants will run over the same time.

I presume you've sold your car already.

Don't go to prison for a fine if you plan on applying for a visa!
Of course it will affect your application.

Is there any way you can bring as much as you can to pay up front and work out a payment plan for the rest,
If there's no option to do that then there is something very wrong with the system because I can't imagine how much its going to cost them to keep you in for 2 weeks.

car was sold months ago to pay rent!

If i pay this fine how would my record look? would I have a conviction or does it only change to a conviction if i spend time in prison?

does anyone know how this would show up on a garda clearence form?

Failure to pay a fine if successfully prosecuted in court, yes will be a conviction.

If you pay the fines now, it's probably not a conviction.

Yes, convictions should show up in a garda check.

Get a loan from the bank, and pay the €1,700. Why are you even thinking otherwise?

    Just had a thought:

Am I correct in saying that you need to provide bank statements with a specified minimum balance to qualify for a visa or is that only for Oz?
