    Am totally clueless when it comes to all this but if anyone can tell me if this is all we're entitled to or not as I am missing mortgage payments left right and centre and can't see anyway of getting help..

    My fiance and I are both on JSA both getting 156e per week each.
    We have a mortgage of 1200e pm(Currently only paying 600e as can't afford anymore)
    Interest in my mortgage is v.high c. 850pm.

    Is there anything we are entitled to as we are afraid or loosing our home.

    And yes, we look for jobs every single day.

    Thanks

    Applied last year. Think they said our interest was too high or something

    Appeal the decision or reapply, is all I can think of at the minute.

    it sounds like you might be better off (stress and maybe debt wise) to sell the house and get rent allowance

    Applied again anyway and got this
    "The loan agreement was entered into at a time when in the opinion of the HSE, You were not in a position to meet the repayments thereunder"
    WTF??
    Is this just a fob off?? My mortgage is for 235k..Repayments were 1100 pm at time when my Fiancee was on 35k a year and I 23k a year..We could well cover our mortgage.
    What should I do?Appeal with p60's proving this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭maryk123

    yes appeal - provide all evidence that you could pay your mortgage eg bank statements and p60's if you have them. show that you paid for however long you paid etc and now you are in financial difficulty and need assistance.

    on the other side do they have proof that you could not pay your mortgage.

    I remember before the boom really took hold people used to say your max mortgage was 4 times the high earner's income, PLUS the low earner's income.

    Have you considered trying to rent 1-2 rooms out to help with mortgage payments?

    You should also consider doing 3-6 month contracts in another town even if it means a long commute or temporary relocation for one or both of you. Possibly check out the job market in England.

    It means you won your Mortgage Interest Supplement (MIS) appeal! :)

    You should attend at the next clinic to discuss your MIS with the HEO in charge of the Community Welfare Service in your area.

    Your claim will be awarded from the date you applied last year & you will receive the arrears at the end of the month (probably March now!) along with your current month's entitlement!

    Congrats! ;)

    You will receive the amount that would have been due to you had your claim been awarded at the time you applied.

    Example 2011;

    Income = relevant DSP rate for your family size - no additional income

    MI = €750 x 12 / 52 = €173.07

    Minimum contribution = €24 (€26 if on DSP not SWA)*

    173.07 - 24 = (149.07 - 2*) x 52/12= €637.30pcm

    637.30 x (no of months owed to 31.12.11) = amount due for 2011

    Example 2012;

    Income = relevant DSP rate for your family size - no additional income

    MI = €750 x 12 / 52 = €173.07

    Minimum contribution = €35 (€37 if on DSP not SWA)** for a couple

    173.07 - 35 = (138.07 - 2*) x 52/12= €598.30

    598.30 x 2 = 1196.60 amount due for Jan & Feb 2012

    * Department of Social Protection rates are €2 per week more than Supplementary Welfare Allowance rates. When calculating rent or mortgage interest supplements, this additional €2 is subtracted from the entitlement as above.

    ** €35 for couples €30 for singles

    Does this make you feel like a big man or something?
    I said it will be SHORT TERM.
    Not that it's your business but I am in 3rd year of my degree in Computer science with a job lined up for when I finish next summer so I will no doubt be paying for other people's mortgages when I finish.

    I am not spending my life on the social welfare and how dare you suggest otherwise.

    My fiance is also volunteering in an eldery person's home 20hrs a week, again,not that it's your business.

    Please go try ruin someone elses day

    Indeed, my sentiments exactly.

    People like that turn my stomach & should refrain from posting offensive abusive inaccurate dribble.

    Such arrogance & delusions of superiorty are some of the reasons why Ireland is in this mess.

    OP I am delighted for you & your new family!

    The very best if luck with your degree & the future. :)

    7 months is,nt short term+ how ever long it is till you get your job NEXT SUMMER!...and its been 7 months since the thread started.......you shouldnt have a mortgage if your in college....i didnt suggest you,d spend your life on it....i dont really care if he volunteers as a male stripper at the zoo....that makes no difference.

    Im not trying to ruin your day just shareing my opinion on what i think is a joke of a system.

    Denballs, the poster didn't ask for a discussion about "the system", they require advice and support about their difficult situation.

    It's your choice as to the method!

    Just ask your HEO when you attend.

    You can choose to have an EFT to your own bank account or to your mortgage account, or collect in the local post office (not recommended for large arrears!) or by cheque.

    :)

    Hey guys just a quick update:
    Got a call to say that there is a problem and the appeal is allowed on the basis that we were able to cover our mortgage but they now have a problem with our interest rate.

    Never just that easy for us..
