    Dear freinds,

I purchased a copy of Windows 7 professional last year on my then student license from Software4students. I was given a key and I think a download of setup1/2.box files etc.

Today, my new laptop arrived - Lenovo G570 (my old one has just died). It has Windows 7 Home Premium (HP) on it. Can I "UPGRADE" to Windows Professional with my setup? I dont want to do a fresh new install as that destroys the factory settings, drivers, Lenovo software etc.

    Many thanks for any help

You can do a clean install and I wouldn't be too worried about loosing all that crap that's installed out of the factory on most these laptops. I'd tend to want to do a fresh install rather than use the factory install on laptops, they put so much junk software onto them I've found some could barely run as new.

I've not tried Windows Anytime Upgrade myself, but it sounds exactly like what you're looking for. :)

Windows Anytime Upgrade - Windows 7

Tried it, wont work, it does not like my Win7 pro serial number. I think it recognises it as a standalone install, not an upgrade version.

Also, I have tried a clean install since my first post. No necessary drivers are added, so I have basic vga video, no WiFi, no Network etc. What a pain.

The drivers shouldn't be any different than the ones for your other version of windows. You should have no problem downloading them from the manufacturers website at the very worst.

I could do if I had a working Lan driver or Wifi driver, can you spot the irony?

Right, I've restored the new laptop to its factory settings, then used it to browse the Levono site and got drivers there. Now to redo the Win7 Pro clean install.

Can you believe in this day and age, were still ffff'ing about like this with bloody Microsoft...
