Mini site within a site?

    Quick question that you guys might be able to help with, I've been asked to 'research' how to do this sort of thing.

    This url royalcork.com/ includes a mini-site. Follow the orange ICRA Cruiser Nationals image on the right hand bar. This will bring you to a site within the mainsite, with the menu structure etc changing.

    So the question is, how is this done, is it simply another template applied to a new url, and if so, how is the content uploaded separately from the mainsite?

    Thanks in advance.

    It looks as if they are using the same page template but they are calling different content with it and the target of the page is _blank (meaning it will display in a new window/tab if using tabbed browsing), here is the link that they are using to call the other website

    <a target="_blank" title="Click here..." href="/icra2011">

    I guess this could be done in any number of ways. Using a framework it would just be a matter of defining a new layout (common for seasonal changes to the header/footer) and defining different views for the content.

    I'm no expert however, others will be able to offer more info I'm sure.

    From the looks of it they installed Joomla to that directory and just provided a link to it.
    If you were to do it without the likes of Joomla it's as simple as creating another directory within the site and putting your webpages in there, and providing a link with a _blank target

    They could have done it like this using a subdomain:

    http://icra2011.royalcork.com

    Its just a sub-directory in the webservers root directory afaik. I haven't read it but it might be of interest to you.

    As said by others it's just a sub directory.

    It's either another CMS site or just a HTML/PHP site made by a developer.

    Content is either uploaded by ftp or a PHP script. If it's FTP you can set an FTP account that will default to the /icra2011 directory and will not allow the user to view the root directory containing all the royalcork stuff.
