    Mileage?
    Tax if any?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,463 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

a quick carzone query says between €6000 and €6500 and that's both private and dealer. what's the mileage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭DarrenCroker

No tax,the mileage is 85,500 miles

Petrol and Strata being average spec hinders the price in todays market.

then you have to start lowering the price...
    €5k should shift it...

I think 6k is way overpriced, more like 4500-5k.

Could also be your location detering people from enquiring, are you outside a major city?

But unfortunately, it seems 6k is not something anyone else wants to consider.

I am afraid you will then be stuck with it, a car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, there's lots of 2004 going for in or around 4k on Donedeal, someone isn't going to pay the guys of 2k extra in a private sale for one with a better service history.

    I know yeah,its such a good car i wouldn't mind keeping it anyway :)

Yes I'd hold on to it for another couple more years, no point in selling it unless there's a need to. The advantage of the low price in selling is unless you are buying new the next car you are getting should also be down in price, works both ways.

Unfortunately what you need to get for it doesn't equate to it's current market value.

Here are two with similar mileage for under €5k:

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201121202586429

Granted they are Aura models but Strata models are not fetching much more second hand.

I don't think you could really have a particular value price for an avensis because there's one on carzone nowhere near as good condition for over 6k

Its worth nowhere near what you are thinking. I recently picked up a 03 toyota avensis strata 1.6 petrol albiet with higher mileage 115k miles for 3 Grand. Full toyota service history and receipts. Still on bridgestones and in immaculate condition. 1 owner from new. Great car. Maybe I was lucky considering what some of those dealers linked previously are looking for...

Its worth about 4.5k in my opinion. At least thats what strata spec from 04/05 have been selling for on donedeal the last while. Anything advertised around the 6 mark stays there forever. I would keep it if i were you.

yes but that's coming from a dealer, more than likely they will throw in some sort of warranty with that and of course that's their asking price. I'd say if I went in there with 5k cash they might consider an offer.

I'm a soon to be prospective buyer so let me give you my perspective. The Avensis is one of the models I've been considering but for the money you're looking for I simply wouldn't consider yours (although to be fair, I'm after a minimum of a 1.8 anyway). For around the same money that you're looking for there's better deals to be had - bigger engines, similar mileage, newer year and taxed. Also for anyone looking for a car that size they have a choice of Mondeo's, Primera's, Accords, Mazda's etc for the same or less money with a range of spec. Buyers market I'm afraid so you'll have to either keep it or drop the price.

I was considering getting an aa report and putting a warranty on it as im a mechanic meself,is that something that would make the car worth more?

hardly an Accord for the same or less money yeah?

I suppose it might make it a more attractive deal but the buyer would have to be living local then I presume. It could prove to be more hassle than it's worth for you too.
I'm also a prospective buyer and I'm considering an Avensis too(like krank above) but I'm not to privy with prices etc at the moment.
I'd also be a bit concerned that the 1.6 might be under-powered for the Avensis..that's just my thoughts, I could be talking shíte too.

Saw a few on Donedeal for similar cash but the mileage is more. http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2329404 Don't know a thing about Accord's though so could be a donkey?

alloys or the extra toy or two dont equate to €1,500 extra in asking price...

Did you buy this car with the sole purpose of flipping it and making a profit...

A car is only worth as much as a customer is preapred to pay for it, not what the seller believes it to be worth...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    4.5k is the money really.
Silver, solar red or black will sell quicker,
Maroon, green navy or white will be tougher to shift

Its a one owner car so i obviously didn't buy it to make a profit

All the Strata has over the Aura model is alloy wheels, rear electric windows and front fog lights. There was about €700 in the difference in price between the two models when they were new. 7 years on that difference is almost zero. Nobody is going to pay you €6000 for the privelege of them.

That is not the going rate for that car, that is the "asking" price that garage are looking for it. They can look for that price until the cows come home but doesn't mean they will get it hence why it is called an asking price. Also a garage offers a warranty which a private seller doesn't. But anyone who pays near €7k for a 7 year old 1.6 Avensis with warranty or not needs their head examined.

OP, nobody here is knocking your car but it has a certain value which is well below the value you put on it. It might be easier to sell with a full service history and in excellent condition but it still only has a certain worth. We all like to think our cars are worth much more but they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Hence why you have had no calls.
