O2 Golden Sim + €6 cashback

Received an email from fatcheese about this about 5 minutes ago. Looks like the o2 golden sim is back.

You have to transfer your number to o2 to take up the offer but it's free calls and texts to other o2 users and €6 cashback as well when you order.

Does anyone know what the "9c Connection Charge" is?

I think the 9cent is a connection charge for every call.

Exactly as it says on the tin. You get charged 9c as soon as your call gets connected to different network than o2. So:
- 1 second call - 9c
- 1 minute call is 19 cents
- 2 minute calls is 29 cents

So unless you make a lot of very short call this is good offer, especially that you don't have to top up at all if you only call o2.

There was some confusion here on board about that connection charge in the beginning , even between o2 representatives, for which they were sorry , but at the end they confirmed that it is as described above.

Free of charge. Can take 72 hours for the sim to activate the free texts

Still its a good deal,I've been using it for over 3 weeks and my call costs are way down on what Vodafone were extorting from me.
Plus the O2 website is light years ahead of the rubbish Vodafone one.

you need to top up by any amount every 6 months AND make at least one chargeable call every 6 months - as stated in O2 T&C

I am not sure about that. As was pointed out earlier the T&Cs (pdf, page 6) state that you have to top up or make a chargeable call at least every six months. So once you topped up your sim card should be working as long as you make a call to a number other than O2 at least every couple of months. I see no need to top up every six months as long as there is some credit left and used.

I must say, that's probably the best phone deal I've seen any operator offer in Ireland... it's a pity I need free texts to all networks or else it's just not worthwhile.

Still €6 free for signing up a spare Vodafone sim card I have, can't argue with that.

Would love to sign up my current sim from VF and keep my same number which I ported from Meteor a few years back. So would love to still have me 085 basically

If not I'll just use this spare meteor sim I have

Yeah I'm not too sure. I like the 085 number, had it a good few years now and I cba texting ppl with a new number

I got the smart phone and activated it but not told anyone the number for it. I might unlock it now and put this 02 one in I've used the spare meteor sim card anyway.

That's usually the point of these switching deals, you keep your old number but then you are switched to O2. I couldn't say for absolute certainty, but I reckon it's the same here, you would keep you 085 number if that's the one you sign up for this with.

Just attempted to get my current O2 number on the gold plan by calling their customer service, as it was suggested by somobody else on a previous post.
I probably came across the worst CS representative (didn't even know wat I was talking about) but in the end he told me that it wasn't possible.

i got it the last time the deal was on for me and my son. i was with o2, they just sent me a new sim and i was able 2 keep my old number as well without any hassle...

I got it working in the end and had it setup for someone close who then decided after agreeing to it that they want to cancel. I guess some people can't see a good deal.

I can only see bill pay prices of €4.95/€9.95 up to 50mb per day depending on which country you are in.
