    Hi Woddle

I am involved with TRI the Hook, the swim is in the sea at Fethard Bay. Of course you can never guarantee anything but it's very sheltered Bay and should be relatively calm! It will be Triangular swim course, going out rounding two bouys and back to the same point on the beach. The transition will be about 100m up from the beach

We are trying to organise a family Friendly event so there will be plenty to do for friends, supporters and family while the race is on

How much is entry? I don't see any info on the website (though I have been known to miss entirely obvious information before!).

Its €40 entry but you will need to buy a one day licence from TI if you don't have membership, most of the details are on http://trithehook.com/

road surface down there is fairly poor and roads themselves are fairly twisty so dont expect and road racing here .

Well I'm just heading home after this. Looks like we were lucky as the weather had just turned for the worse. I thought it was really well organised. The distance between parking and the transition wasnt ideal and about half of the roads were very poor, I saw a fair few punctures but apart from that a good day. Sea was extremely calm. Like being in the pool. Looks like the village really got into as well.

Yeah the event was very well organised and there was great work from the army of volunteers. The officials were very friendly and couldn't do enough for the competitors. I took advantage of the free massage afterwards too - excellent.

However, all the excellent organisation and community spirit couldn't make up for the bike course. It was described in the briefing as very technical but I'd put it closer to downright dangerous. There were several crashes - way more than I've seen in any other tri - it was luck rather than planning that nobody was seriously hurt. This is not a complaint about the excessive bumps or potholes - it's about the decision to design a course that meant racing around sharp 90 degree bends on super-narrow gravel-strewn roads on a surface that was always going to get super-slippy if it rained.

It's a pity because the rest of the setup was so good.

Thanks to all the volunteers on the day - fair dues.

yeah i think everyone is in agreement with that alright. I was going really slow and ****ting myself a little, felt like i was going to succumb to the loose gravel once or twice. The fact some of those corners were at the bottom of descents made it worse i think. I'm guessing sharp corners on a climb aren't half as dangerous.
Maybe next year the cycle could start the other direction and avoid that 3/4k at the start of this race altogether
