Anyone got any advice for me about online gambling and the effect it has on looking for a mortgage. I deposit €20 max a week and some weeks nothing at all. Will this affect me when i look for a mortgage in a year or 2. Is it possible to top up my account via Paypal and not have it show up as depositing money into a gambling account. Any feedback appreciated

I suspect an mortgage provider is looking at something rather greater than 20 euro a week. I'd say they would use a rule of thumb based on % of income, if you are on a typical industrial wage I doubt it'll be an issue. People drink and smoke far more and they are much more likely to keel over.

Hmm interesting, your worried that the bank will see deposits from your bank account via your credit card i assume?

I for one wouldnt give ya a mortgage so id think carefully

Wouldn't particularly want a 21 year old's opinion on this tbh.

OP, gambling transactions, contrary to belief, do not have any impact whatsoever on your chances of getting a Mortgage, unless of course, you were vastly late with CC payments etc.

If you were just depositing off your laser card, you will have no problems and can't be questioned on the situation.:)

When are you planning on applying?

Save yourself worry and don't make any deposits for the next 6 months.

As a mortgage broker i would advise you to leave any form of gambling away from your current accounts . Even if you were winning in the long run they will still not look kindly on it .

Cheers for the advice lads. Wont be applying til next year at the earliest but i may steer clear of online betting after reading the above comment. I've gone 2 months without depositing so may try keep it going. Its just the extra hassle of going to the bookies and then having to go back for any winnings

Like i said im not a big gambler and its frustrating to think that i cant bet 20 quid a week online but yet someone can spend 50 quid plus a week on smokes and it doesnt affect their chance of getting a mortgage.

And im depositing with my laser card if that makes any difference.

They are looking for any negative reason to turn down applications . I think Powers have a facility where you can lodge cash through their shops , not sure about this though . If it is right you would be better lodging the money that way .

So do Boylesports and BetPack.com, I'd do that to be honest. Have no transactions to a gambling site from any current account or credit card, one less thing to worry about with a mortgage application. To many non gamblers any one who does have a bet is a mug who is losing his arse.

Get yourself a 3v card (or similiar). 20e or less on a voucher is free, and theres no link back to your bank account as you pay by cash

Banks are just looking for any excuse at all now not to give people a mortgage so are using betting a/c transactions as a ways of refusing people. when times were good they wouldnt care about how much you were gambling and was a matter of you naming how much you wanted

I normally deposit money into my accounts using a paysafe voucher. You can buy them just like phone credit top ups and deposit it in your account. If you win and want to make a withdrawal they lodge the money into your bank account......hasn't happened to me that often though.
