Dried battery acid causes problems in future?

I didn't really know where to put this.. so move elsewhere if there's anywhere else suitable.

.. I got a Oral B Hummingbird Power Flosser (yes.. I know it sounds like a vibrator) from Amazon.

And there was a battery included which leaked.. now it didn't appear to corrode anything (well, it still appears to work.. at least for the moment.. with a new battery).

I disposed of the battery (but took photos of it first to send to Amazon to complain) and cleaned off the remnants of dried battery acid from the inner casing. But there stills seems to be flakes of it on the terminals but they're difficult to get to.

Could this cause any issues down the line? I'd rather not send it back as it'll cost me the same to send it back than what I paid for it practically.

it should be ok once you clean most of the acid off. its unusual for the duracel batteries to breakdown like that. the toothbrush must have been on during transit

Thanks for that west boy.. I'd say it'd be OK too.

It could have happened.. although it was off when I got it and the leaking battery was still working (before I noticed it was leaking and tore it out).

But the odd thing was there's only one review posted for the product and it's..

The product is well reviewed elsewhere.. I'm guessing this seller SWAK must have a bad batch.

    True, that.

Clean 'er up and off she goes again. It's worth checking anything you buy with integral batteries, remotes in particular, as they're packaged with the cheapest sh1t they can get. Thinking being, if you pump out a million and save a cent on each, etc.

Probably zink carbon batteries in it. They are the cheapest and so are the type usually included in these type items, and zinc carbon batteries are prone to leaking even when in storage without being used.

All's well that ends well.. always pays to complain!
First of all, please allow me to apologise for the issue you have experienced with this item.

In addition to our large selection of items, one of our aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service and I realise that we have not met that standard in this case.

Normally, in this situation, I would create a replacement order for the defective item right away, to be dispatched to you as soon as possible at no additional charge.

However, your order # XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX for the item, 'Oral B Hummingbird', was sold by SWAK. This item was labelled ‘Fulfilled by Amazon’ are dispatched to you directly from an Amazon.co.uk fulfillment centre but because SWAK's inventory is constantly changing, we cannot replace any items sold by them that are fulfilled by Amazon.

Because we can’t replace your Oral B Hummingbird, I’ve requested a full refund to your payment card used for this order in the amount of GBP 14.99. Refunds usually go through within 7 to 10 business days and we’ll send you confirmation by e-mail when it is complete. You should see this credit on your next payment card statement.

It is our policy to request that you must return the original item to Amazon.co.uk within 30 days. However, as the cost of returning the package is in this case prohibitively expensive, we ask that you keep the original item with our compliments. Perhaps you would like to donate it to a charity in your area if you feel it would be appropriate to do so.

Fair dues to Amazon.. definitely one of the finest companies online in terms of customer service.

for the record I think that boiling hot water would have washed away the acid.
