I need to get some house insurance, My last insurer cancelled the policy due to non disclosure of a claim( I'm still unsure how this happened) but anyway the last claim was Oct 08 and have no insurance since April. Now the mortgage company are sending me letters saying I'll be in default on the mortgage if I don't get insurance, I've tried all the online quotes but none will quote. I've tried a Google search but only get American based or UK based companies. Is there anyone in Ireland I can get insurance with? ( I understand I'll pay extra for my stupidity).

UB do house nsurance along with aib.

Try a broker, they'll have more than one company on their books so it will be easy to locate who will insure you.

Use a broker. But you are going to have to give a decent reason for the non-disclosure of the claim. As it will be a qualifying question for every insurers whether you have had a policy cancelled, etc.

try the mortgage company as well. They usually have a tie in with an insurer. However, as others have said, you will have to make a very clear truthful declaration as to the non disclosure.

You say you're still not sure how this happened. You better rack the brain as you will need to be very sure.

I love the way you just casually refer to the last claim as being Oct '08, as if it was a regular occurance up to then

your mortagge provider wants you to have cover so get back to them and try and get the cover through their insurance partner.

If the claim was for water damage you are going to find it difficult.

The main cover the Mortgage provider wants is fire damage, you might be able to get cover with exclusions for water damage etc.

P.M. me with the details if you are having no joy.

Sorry for the delay in getting back but have been a little busy.
I've been to a couple of brokers and they still couldn't get me a quote, but one of them told me that as far as she knew my last insurance company was legally obliged to quote me if I cant get a quote me. so the company I was with last year (the company that cancelled my insurance) have to quote me.
I rang them Friday evening and told the operator this and asked him to talk to his underwriters about this and get back to me, its the first time I ever got a call back from an insurance firm within 5 minutes, He said I have to get 3 letters of refusal and send them on and the underwriters will get back to me then. So I'll head off and get the letters tomorrow and post back when I get some news.
Thanks very much for the help.

The insurance company do not have to quote you for house insurance so Im a little perplexed.

House insurance is not a legal requirement therefore they arent under obligation to provide you with a quote.

Car insurance is different as you obviously have to have it to drive.

I wouldnt get your hopes up just yet.

Underwriting criteria on home insurance has tightened up a helluva lot over the last 18 months due to the amount of claims.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. Friend off mine is in the same boat,Is their any specialist insurers who would take on someone who has been refused cover. Many thanks in advance.

    Go to a broker.
Also, start a new thread rather than bumping an old one!

Stops people from accidentally replying to the op's already-answered question rather than the bumper's question.

It's just a suggestion, I also replied to the not-op's question.
