I am trying to book a return bus ticket from galway to dublin airport on their website but they ask me to specify a time, I know I want to take the 9.15 express tomorrow but my flight is due to get into Dublin around 11.45 pm next week so I am not sure if I should book the 00.15am bus return (giving myself just half an hour and have to pick up luggage and hope for no delays) or to just cut my losses and book the 06.15am bus return meaning I'll have the doss around in the airport for a few hours (unless they kick people out overnight???)......anyway just say i book the 00.15 bus and I am late, does that mean I have to pay again for the 06.15 ticket? also is there any way of buying an open ticket online or should i just wander down to the bus station in the morning, pay a bit extra and get the open ticket there and then, hoping the bus isn't booked out of course???

    Hi Donfers,
Just specify the earlier time and if you miss that one, there will be no problem using the ticket for the next available bus.
Even though their booking system asks you to specify a return time, I've never seen either Citylink or Gobus enforce this and ask someone to purchase another ticket or add-on.

Missed my city link bus last week and just got the next with no issues about the ticket!

Difference between a private operator hungry for business and making their customers happy.

Now try the same on IrishRail or Bus Eireann and see what happens.

There is no issue with Bus Eireann - their tickets are not departure specific.

I got an earlier train home from Dublin this evening without extra charge. This was confirmed by a series of grunts from the gentleman on the ticket desk in Heuston, my colleague made a similar enquiry and received similar grunts from another member of staff.

Though I have paid extra on previous occasions.

Ryanair do charge around €40 to change times but that's a different type of "hunger" ;)

Sorry to highjack the thread but I was walking past Heuston the other day when I noticed that the Citylink busses look remarkably similar in branding to those operated by Dublin Bus. The colours are almost an exact match.

Citylink coaches have the same colours as Dublin busses maybe

Also the same colours as FR planes insides and Roscommon and Clare and Wickla and Tipp....

But they are Date specific if it's a before/after midnight thing

So are most public transport tickets I would venture to suggest....

A lot of (urban) transit companies sell tickets that are valid from 4am to 3.59am or (like the Luas) until the last departure of the day.
