Suggestions for buying a second hand car

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a second hand car soon and have a budget of around €6-€7k.

I wouldn't use it much during the week, it would mainly be for weekends when I'm driving home to Mayo from Dublin, so I'd like something comfortable and not too heavy on fuel. I use my current car for getting to races and so would need a decent boot for bringing bicycle, parts etc.

I was looking at Volvo S40's as a friend of mine has one and is very happy with it, I also like the look of them. I considered an Audi A4 but think the Volvo might be better value.

I'd like to go through a dealer in order to get a warranty.

Anyone have any suggestions? I was also wondering what sort of discount, if any, do you think I could try to haggle if I was paying upfront? i.e. If a car was listed as being on sale for €8k could I reasonably expect an offer of €7 or less would be considered?

    Thanks
    RR

Did you paste that text in from an editor on your PC/Mac? The currency symbols are coming up as funny symbols.
