USC on biweekly pay?

Hi folks, this topic has been exercising my mind for a while.

According to the USC PDF available on revenue.ie, the USC is calculated on a weekly and monthly basis, accordingly:

2% - Weekly: up to €193, Monthly: up to €837
4% - Weekly: up to €308, Monthly: up to €1335
    7% - Weekly: over €308, Monthly: over €1335

Now for biweekly pay would that translate as:

    2% - up to €306
    4% - up to €616
    7% - over €616

Is that correct? Might prevent a potentially embarrassing call to the revenue in the morning in that case (embarrassing in the me thinking that they're overtaxing me sense).

Also, how long does it normally take for a refund of overtaxing be usually paid? I see that you can put your bank a/c details on the PAYE anytime site but infuriatingly PAYE anytime is currently down. Can it be sorted over the phone and if so, how long should it take untill a rebate is paid out?
(different issue to the USC question, have a feeling I know the answer to that one already)

I think that should be 2% up to €386?

This is an issue for your employer to sort out through the payroll; after all it's they who are over-deducting the tax, not Revenue. During the tax year they can just make an adjustment to repay the overpayment to you.

Otherwise to answer your question, if you are seeking a repayment of tax / USC overpaid from Revenue, you have to wait until after the year end and you have a P60 (or have been let go and have a P45).

Yeah €386 sounds right, the €306 was a typo, all seems to add up now sadly. (And there I was thinking that they managed to foul up the payroll)

The 2nd issue was about a P21 from 2007 I requested, that says I overpaid tax in that year. How soon would I get the cash for that was my question.

For such queries, I've uploaded an Excel USC calculator at http://taxcalc.eu/monthlyss

You'd better get on your bike if you are looking for a refund for 2007. AFAIK you can only claim back a max of 4 year's overpaid tax.

You should get a cheque/giro with the P21, or if they have your bank account details it will go straight in within a few days of the P21 issuing...

Came in the post today as a matter of fact, must say that for all their faults the government have a good one going with the paye anytime, fantastic service and pretty easy to use.
