    Hey,

Myself and a mate are looking to get away to play some golf
Due to young babies probably only one night possible
Might be able to get in 3 rounds over 2 days

I trying to think where best to go and what way to play it
I mean play 3 different courese ? - doable but you know the way sometimes youd love to play a course again having played it for the first time as first time round you didnt know so many things about the place

So anyway were Limerick area based, willing to travel but not too far due to time restrictions obviously

    Any thoughts ?

mmm Maybe look into the Adare Manor,

I Hear the main course is outstanding, but have a secondary course
which i hear is quite challenging also. Not sure of prices or anything,

    but worth a look anyway.

    Sean.

cheers but thinking further afield as we can play local courses any time. With the overnight possible were thinking of travelling to a course(s) worth playing that we wouldnt otherwise have a chance to

    All depends on your budget?

Carton House, Two courses and accommodation. Maynooth is not far up the road for a few pints.
    http://fe.avvio.com/convert/site/Carton%20House/en/rate/341.html

Bunclody Golf Club: They have great deals for stay and play:
    http://www.bunclodygfc.ie/home.aspx

Druid's Glen: Two courses: The offer is for one course but im sure you could ask for a deal to play the two:http://www.druidsglenresort.com/special-offers?price_group=65536&sv=false
Or play the Heath and head to Macreddin Golf Club: http://www.macreddingolfclub.com/club/

Alternatively have a look at the GUI website and scan an area for opens and play two open days keeping you golf budget low and then look for accommodation in the area

Thanks for all the replies guys...some good ideas there

This offer looks interesting.....we could play two rounds on the one day and maybe play a course on th way up too

If you had to choose a Carton course to play twice what would it be ?

And if you were travelling from Limk to Dublin and could play one course along the way what would it be ? (we could check opens of course)

I would have presumed this means you could play one course in the morning and in the evening. Which IMO is a great deal :)

When I went to school either meant one or the other - not both.:D

Mind you in this day and age you might be able to haggle when booking.

Fair cop:o - it was the speed reading that I learned in school that has been my downfall - just did not read Keano's and the OP's posts carefully enough.

Worth considering Rosapenna... two separate courses in the top 25 links in Ireland.

Looks like 95 pounds/108 euro for same deal minus dinner.
So about 12 euro for 2 course dinner.

What about heading up to Sligo and playing Rosses point/Strandhill/Enniscrone. You can get a sligo links pass for around 120e for all 3 if I remember rightly

Sounds good. Never played links though.
Were both high handicaps so Im wondering if the wind is up would we enjoy it or be driven mad :D

You could also add Castel dargan into the Sligo mix. Nice parkland course if you want to mix things up. Plus I think they have a deal for accom and golf in castle dargan and rosses point.

Would second that suggestion of the links pass.3 fab courses in the nicest surroundings you will find.if you want to get away and relax this would be great,as long as you don't get too upset by strange bounces and some awkward stances.but as an experience it would be second to none.however if you don't like links golf after the first course it could be a long couple of rounds on the next 2.Maybe mix in a couple of parklands either side of one links course to break yourself in gently.ballinrobe is one suggestion up that side, top class, open day on a friday and cheap too.personally i love playing links golf.great fun!!!

    http://www.killarney-golf.com/index.cfm/page/courses

I'm sure if you contact them they'll give you a deal to play all 3 courses at a reasonable rate. I've never played any of them to be honest, but Killeen is supposed to be a fantastic course.

you can get a 3 pass for faithlegg (waterford) waterford castle and mount juliet (killkenny) .. Faithlegg and mount juliet are amazing courses would really recommend them! The 3 course pass costs 123e and is valid for a year from the date you buy them!

Saw that one alright. Someone on here in last few months giving out about Faithlegg though - cant remember why exactly

At the moment Im thinking Carton House 1 night, B and B, dinner, unlimited rounds on either course is winning.
So play either an open or some other course on way up and then one of the courses twice on the next day before heading home
Maybe the Heritage on the way up ? Any thoughts ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭kyleman

Most courses in the midlands have open days so if you knew what day of the week you are travelling up would be easier to recommend somewhere

I really cant understand that everyones entitled to there opinions but i play quite alot of golf and appreciate a good course and i thought it was beautifull and in great nick waterford castle doesnt have a patch on it! Each to there own i suppose. As far as i know they do alot of them 3 course deals i know theres one for down ur way with dromoland castle not sure about the other 2 and theres one for lenister which is the hermitage carton house and rathsallagh! Also iv heard very good things about the courses in sligo!:D

With the Carton House option you get to play an inland links type set-up when playing the Monty Course, deep fairway traps and links type grass off the fairway. It would be a nice introduction to Links all be it in land with no ocean in sight. Then you could play the O'Meara course which is a lovely parkland set-up and very fair. The big plus for the Carton house option is the accommodation is very nice.

The Heritage is a fine course and not too far from Maynooth. Well worth a game if you can get a deal on a green fee. They have Open's which are usually €30 per head.
If it was me I would stay midweek in Carton and play The Heritage on the way home.
