    Well folks

    Have a 2.0 D4D Avensis 08

I've recently noticed then when I am accelerating in from about 4th up to 6th and the revs are between 1800RPM and 2000RPM that there is a sort of clicking noise coming from her. Mainly noticeable if the window is down but can also be heard when the cabin is sealed.

Pretty vague info but any ideas what it could be ?

    Could be injector/s

It could also be a sign that the timing is slightly off. With 53k on the clock is is due a new belt soon anyway. There is no way of knowing for sure unless your bring it to a garage.

    Isn't it chain driven ?

That D-4D engine is chain driven and good for the life time of the engine afaik.

Ya sorry the newer 2.0 D4D do indeed have a chain.

Have you noticed any change in the fuel consumption ?

Id bring it back to toyota and get it checked out. They can hook it up to a computer and check for any fault codes. As colm_mcm said it might be the injectors. Its all speculation do, you wont know for sure until you bring it to the garage.

This isn't a whistling noise. It's like a load of crickets having a meeting under the hood. I have been hastily informed it could be a DMF issue..... Which is nice.

Just got her serviced. They said the EGR valve was sticking open and that they cleaned it out. Took the car away and what do you know? Sounds still there and their closed. :/
