How can I train to become a faster swimmer. I can swim 1000m at the moment but I want to do it faster. What kind of sets or training do I need to do?

You're going to need to give us some more information.

You can swim 1000m at the moment? How long does that take? How often do you do it?

If you want to improve you will need to increase the distance you're swimming per session and probably the frequency too.

Im doing about 27 secs per 25m length in the swimming pool at the moment over 1000m metres. I can swim 40 lengths in about 22 mins/ 25 mins.

You need to swim further than 1000M - get in the pool for at least 45-60 minutes a session. You might get away with 2 sessions a week, but many would say three sessions per week minimum.

You should incorporate a warmup and a swim-down.

Sets of 100 metres are a staple of swimming - and they will help develop consistent pace.

200s can be tougher - but help you blitz distances.

Mixing in other strokes help mix up the session and avoid boredom.

    Something like this:

300 warmup - mixed strokes. Easy pace.

    5 * 100M 2:30

    5*100 2:15

    1*50 easy

    5*50 1:10

    1*200 M

    200 swimdown

Forgive me if you know this already. "5 * 100M 2:30" means you do 5 x 100M in 2:30 - this 2:30 includes rest - so if you finish the 100M in 2:20 you get 10 seconds rest, 2:15 = 15 seconds rest. You will be doing 500M in 12.30. So for the 5*100 on 2:15 it'll add up to 500m in 11:15
